  • FSX minimum computer spec

I'm looking to buy FSX for fitting not simulation, but the spec they quoted for the computer seems a bit excessive, I can't find a computer under £1000 that fits the bill. Anyone using FSX with a lower spec computer and having no problems

Which spec are you looking at? There have been several. I have run FSX with a desktop containing a i5 3.3ghz processor, 8 meg of memory, a 960 GPU and a 256 GB SSD as the disc drive. I was not running 4k output since I don't have a 4K display of any kind. My projector is only 1024 x768 so the I was also not outputting HD to the projector. It was outputting HD to my computer monitor.

      They recommend
      i7
      16Gb
      Graphics card 2GB. 220GB/s

A couple of months ago they recommended a lot lower spec

      i5
      8GB
      Graphics card 2GB. 90GB/s

I might install a simulator screen later on so want it to be good enough

If you are only using the computer to run the simulator (i.e., not running a bunch of spreadsheets and other applications), then 8 GB RAM will work. New generation i5 processor will run just fine (intel i5 6500 running at 3.2 to 3.6 speed). The graphics card is the most important, so if you plan to run 1920x1080 resolution in high quality, you'll need a GTX 970 to run the game at 60 frames per second which is a great picture and frame rate.

        intel i5 = $350 USD
        GTX 970 = $350 USD

Prices vary depending where you look. Hope this helps

I might also use it for teaching and storing swing videos so probably need the bigger memory

RAM is not storage, it is memory that is used by the Operating System, to 'operate'. Hard drives are storage. TB drives are dirt cheap. That is what you need for storing videos, etc.

I'm putting together a system spec at the moment that will allow me to test virtualization and also double as a gaming rig. I'll post the spec and where to buy when I'm done, but it's a lot less than what you are looking at price wise and just as powerful
