TGC with Friends and Specific Golf Course

Hey all, I ordered a GC2 from Foresight yesterday and expect it next week. I did get the FSX software primarily for the practice and club tracking data.

I plan on getting TGC but had a question. Does TGC allow mutiple players to play off line for fun? I want to be able to play rounds against friends and my kids just for fun in my garage together?

Also, does anyone know if Oak Tree National is on the list of courses? It has held a PGA Championship as well as a recent US Senior open and a few other tournaments as well. I am curious as it is my home course and I would love to be able to play it online.

    Hey Jeff,

You can have up to 4 total players at a time, so no worries there. Not sure about Oak Tree. Good luck!

At quick glance it looks like the Oak Trees that are available are not accurate. Ksman has a great list of accurate real life courses. With over 107 000 courses, there are more than a few that aren't worth playing. Damn that auto course creation tool!!!!! This forum has a few lists of great real and fictional courses that are great to play. Official HB studio courses are a safe bet for a good round. Handicap rated courses are usually also a safe bet. There are over 1000 of those. If you join the online tour, all courses are tested for accuracy and playability. The tour tries to play the same courses as the pros over the same time period. If there isn't an accurate one available a playable substitute will be selected. We also try to mix it up to keep the majority happy. Some courses are as long as the real thing while others are shorter versions that are more playable for the masses. It is really incredible playing an accurate course that you know. Hopefully, some great designer will soon do that course justice.

A lot of people it appears don't have room to swing a driver or 3 wood in their sim area.
Is there a big handicap to them with being short?

The longest club I hit is a 2 hybrid which goes about 240. We have had a lot of long courses lately that are tough for me and raised my handicap, but then the shorter courses like this week's give the shorter hitters an edge because all of a sudden we can hit mid and short irons into the greens instead of laying up, but our handicap has adjusted to layups. On top of that I have been hitting it well which resulted in a very good week for me. No matter what the outcome of the tournament is, it is still fun trying to shoot a good score for your ability and I definitely feel the nerves coming down the stretch when I have a good round going. I think it would be fun to have an irons only tournament on a short course just to see how I can stack up against the best players who have sub 0 handicaps

On some of the courses we play on the tour it certainly has to be a big handicap, but we play a lot of shorter ones as well and I would think it would be manageable at least for them. Plus with the handicap system we have in place now, the downsides of not being able to hit a driver will eventually even out with their in game handicap hopefully

Yeah just thought I would throw it out there as an idea. Maybe that would be something we could do in the fall before the winter season starts. I really enjoy watching your rounds that you post, but it is hard to compare my game to yours when you are consistently hitting from 40-50 yards closer than me. even my best 3 irons aren't going to compare with your 8 iron approaches.

Thank you very much, definitely gotta give it up to ks-man for leading the way there (for me at least, not sure if anyone else here was posting their rounds before him with the webcam and all). His statement on not wanting to miss getting his first hole in one on tape was all I needed to hear before I bought a webcam haha. But yea, cant even imagine having to do that all round. It was super frustrating hitting long irons into greens all the time when I was spraying my drives all over the place the round I played on the full length congressional, doing that from the fairways would be extra annoying, especially if you know you actually have that extra distance in your bag but just cant utilize it. #ironsonlytournamentinfall haha

I honestly would score a lot better on many holes if I was to leave my driver in the bag. It would help keep it in the fairway and not spraying it OB or losing a ball and having to go back to the tee after I can't find it.

True, yea you might have a point there, I often think the same thing at times haha. If you are hitting your drives well though, it's no doubt a huge difference

Keep practicing on the drives. I used the replay feature of TGC to show how my drives have improved over 6 months. I just took 4 or 5 drives from one of my first rounds and compared it to 6 months later. I no longer slice the ball. I still have a slight fade on occasion but I hit mostly straight now. Here is a youtube video showing my improvement off the tee.

Wow - thanks for this - I had no idea there was a replay feature like this available. I'll need to look into this.

You can actually watch your whole round. Change loop shot to play to the end. Save one shot and you can watch your whole round.... for the most part. It gets stuck on hole one. So you can watch from hole 2 to 18. I used to hit about 10% Firs IRL and now I hit 50-80%. I even had one round where I hit every fairway. Shot an 80 on a really hard course that day.
