  • Exputt Putting Simulator

Has anybody seen this or have any experience with it? The mygolfspy guys posted a quick video of it on their Instagram a few days ago and it looks pretty cool, especially for somebody that doesn't have the room for a full swing in their house. From what I can find online it looks like it's an Asian company expanding to the US market. If the numbers are accurate it could be a good training tool.

linkkingx - that looks awesome, I hope they can make a way to lengthen the distance to that stopper, as it's much easier to get a feel of 8' -12' putts having that full distance to see the ball travel. Other than that - cool, I hope this data can be brought into TGC to make putting better.

Any updates this? Anyone order this yet and try it out?

I’m tempted to order one, but would like to hear feedback from others first. Nice to have something else to play with during the quarantine...

      Price seems reasonable.

Got mine last night. So far, I think it's totally worth it for the price and the quarantine.

Exputt is a surprisingly useful tool. I use mine primarily to practice distance control on a flat green, and I use the “Challenge” and “Play 9“ options occasionally. I highly recommend buying one if you want to practice putting. Exputt makes it easy to practice putting, which has resulted in me practicing more often, which has resulted in better putting. I use it almost daily.

In general: I think the Exputt provides a great putting simulation experience. I have a PuttOut mat, mirror, and ramp, and I’ve stopped using them and switched to the Exputt. I’m no longer limited to practicing 6-foot putts. Exputt is a very good tool, with some minor limitations. The ball data is fantastic, and the camera’s ability to detect speed and launch angle is impressive. The system settings let you tinker with things like green stimp and player handedness. I’ve had some issues with club data that I attribute to the white insert on my putter. Exputt’s club data measurement seems to work better when there is a high contrast between the color of your putter face and the circular white stickers that the camera tracks. (As an aside, the manual notes that the system will work with *any* regular white stickers. If you run out, you can buy more from any office supply store.) The system has some sensitivity to light. If you’re using it in a darker room (like a dedicated sim room), you may want to purchase a small led light to help the camera “see” the pattern on the mat. Similarly, the system has some sensitivity to placement (distance/height/angle) between camera and mat). There may be some trial and error if you plan to setup and put away the Exputt after each use, but it’s easy to work with. I setup and put away my Exputt after every use, and it takes less than a minute to get it up and running.

Club Data: I have some issues with club data. My putter has a white insert, which seems to interfere with the camera’s ability to consistently provide club face and club path data. I’ll get occasional misreads where the ball data displays and the ball launches correctly, but the club data screens remain blank. I’m tinkering with lighting and trying other putters to confirm my suspicions about the limitations of the Exputt’s camera. Those with white inserts should be aware that club data may not always display after a putt. (I’ve been using my Exputt alongside a Blast sensor, so Exputt’s club data display issues haven’t been a dealbreaker for me.)

Ball Data: I have no way to independently test Exputt, but anecdotally it appears to provide great ball data. I’ve estimated the stimp of my local course, and practicing with Exputt has definitely helped me develop feel for distance control. I usually set the unit to give me random distances up to 50’, and I’ve noticed that my lag putting and distance control has drastically improved because of how easy it is to jump in and practice. The Exputt’s ability to measure and display launch angle and ball speed is very impressive, especially considering that the entire unit is built into the camera. Settings are persistent, so once you tinker with things like stimp, handedness, and general practice settings, the system will remember them the next time you power it on.

Other Observations: The analysis/statistics screens are one of my favorite parts of the system. My usual routine is to practice 100 flat putts at random distances. The stats screen shows me a dispersion chart, and some basic metrics on how good I was at hitting certain distances. I love it. (I just wish the system could show/save more than just the data from your most recent session.)

If you watch the online videos, you can see how the aiming system works. The camera has a clever system that allows you to use your putter to change your aim. It works well. You can also change your aim/start line using the included remote, or by intentionally pulling/pushing your putts. The “Challenge” and “Play 9” modes are great fun. (Even though I rarely use them unless I have company over.)

Thanks for the response, that's what I was considering too. A Skytrak or Mevo+ for full swing and this if it actually helped with putting and lag putting is where I'd want to take advantage of this software

So I bought an Exputt simulator and it's very good at picking up the ball and I like the review after you quit the practice session.

Did you see the analysis section?
If you go into menu from the practice mode there's an option for analysis. It sets you up for 30 random putts and analyzes your miss pattern. I didn't have the stickers on my putter and missed a lot of face/path readings, so I can't comment on that. At the end it asks if you want to save your analysis to review or compare later. I don't know how many sessions can be saved, but it's a good way to track progress

I did not know about that persistent analysis feature! Thanks! I’ll try that out tonight.

They really ought to put it on sale! I’m sure a ton of people might try it out if they dropped the price.

Has any one from Canada bought one? Interested in seeing how the shipping works?

Anansi I agree on the sale, it would make great sense right now with everyone stuck at home. I even contacted them to ask about any sale and they told me there are none planned and some posts hinted around to an rise on the price.

OK - I just placed an order to Canada. They provide options to ship with almost all couriers with the average cost around $55US. I picked UPS Worldwide Express which stated only 1 day shipping.

I only tried it for a quick sessions so far, so can't provide a review yet from that perspective, although in terms of shipping to Canada:

It was $55US with UPS Worldwide Express, and took around 3 days (excluding weekend). UPS changes an additions $38 Canadian for GST and brokerage ($28+$10 respectively). Seems to ship out of New York.

Actually, that doesn't sound too bad as far as the fees go.

For those that have this or might be looking to get it, there is an analysis option in the practice session that tracks 30 random putts and can be saved for review/comparison against later sessions

I only tried it out and didn't have the stickers on the putter so it missed the face/path readings and I didn't save the distance variances to the different distances.

If I remember correctly, it shows average miss and standard deviation for putts 0-15 ft, 15-30 ft, and 30-50 ft. A good putt is +/- 3 feet away from the target distance.

Just an update for those considering Exputt...

I haven't had a chance to play it much yet, but so far I have been REALLY impressed. For what seems to be an initial version of the software, it provides a lot more polish and features than I would have expected. I also played around a fair bit with open face, closed face, path, etc and it seems to be very accurate.

The only concern is I didn't see any way to update the software on their website? Should they add new enhancements or courses. Hopefully this will be supported in the future.

This is a great way to pay and practice during the quarantine!

Agreed, I don't see anyway of updating software on this which kind of sucks.

Also if you plan on using this on carpet, i found that as soon as you set the putter down behind the ball, the ball moves all over the place. I fixed this by using a piece of cardboard under the mat.

Lighting was an issue as well with missing the club measurements. I now use a led shoplight pointed at the mat and it never misses a measurement now.

I wish there was a way to get the analytics with just a fixed distance. Currently you had 30 putt at random distances to get them.
