  • Clip Alternative

After trying a few things the last few nights I have an alternative for the clips. I went to menards and got some poster putty, in the adhesive section. I took a small amount and put it on the back of the r-motion sensor on the top and bottom and made sure it went onto the sides of the sensor as well. I simply then pressed it onto the shaft square to the club face. I played 2 rounds changing clubs in seconds between shots. It never moved at all and every shot was picked up even putts. After the shot I just grabbed the side of the r-motion and peeled it off. After I was done for the night I just peeled the putty off the r-motion and put it back with the rest in a zip-lock bag. For 2.99 I have enough to last a lifetime and no taking off the clips or worrying about only having 4 clips. I used all of my clubs and had a great night!

Of course I had to immediately try this and it worked perfectly. Bought some $1.79 mounting putty from CVS and success! Distances measured the same and readings measured the same. I was a little nervous the sensor would fly off but it was solid.

        Thanks rhart!!!!!

I'd like pictures too but this sounds brilliant.

To play a round with the family of 4 we'd need to buy four batches of clips for 4×$90=$360!!! But if I understand you guys the putty solution would do the same job for $2.

Sounds like switching the sensor from club to club is as easy as the clips. Plus it handles junior shaft problem. And doesn't break.

So what are the downsides? Doesn't it have to be aligned to club face each time? That might be a downside in both hassle factor and repeatability of result. Anything else?

              Definite hack, lol.

As far as downside goes, not sure there is a big one. It's surprisingly easy to align to the club face. It may take 5 seconds instead of the 1 it takes just slipping it on.

To to take this hack further, I may cut down the broken clip I have (the sides) and place the putty on the clip and just transfer that every shot. It would keep alignment more simple and consistent.

Just to clarify, life hack was a complement. To come up with something for $2 that works vs paying a crazy amount for clips that may break,is an excellent idea.

rhart Great job. Please be careful and make sure it doesn't fly off and damage something. Ironstrokes not at all. We love it when our customers tinker and come up with their own novel ways of using it.

I am interested in the R motion and was thinking you might be able to make some simple clips using thermoplastic (see link below) just an idea, I was thinking of trying this stuff if I buy the R motion myself.

If you mean what is referenced in this thread, it is just using molding putty to stick the sensor on the club. Don't let the simplicity fool you, it works very well.

I'm sure it does just still wanted to see it. With the force of the swing it's amazing it stays on to where you wouldn't worry about it flying off.
