  • Beta Release 1.2.7

    Hello All,

We are releasing 1.2.7 beta today. This release includes several improvements in UI and under the hood. Changes are:
    • UI:
      • Added Help Screens to help our users
      • Diagnostic mode is now part of UI, you can turn on and off via Settings
      • Some socket improvements for better TGC connectivity
    • FW:
      • Several under the hood improvements (LA corrections, Face Angle improvements)
      • Trigger improvements (relaxed the sanity checks)

    Other Notes:
    • 1.2.6 remains as the gold release for now. You can always downgrade to 1.2.6 even if you upgrade to a higher version.
    • If you run into problems such as:
      • Shots are not triggering
      • Unrealistic ball flights
      • Others
Please turn on the Diagnostic mode and take several shots. Turning on and off the diagnostic mode doesn’t require an application restart, so you can do this shot by shot. Those shots taken when Diagnostic Mode On will be uploaded to our servers and we will take a look at the debug information for further refinements. You must keep your PC connected to the internet for debug information to be pushed out to our servers. You can also post a message at the forum or send a message to our support email regarding what are the problems you are facing. (support@rmotiongolf.com). Enabling Diagnostic Mode will delay the shot launch for an additional 3-4 seconds.

If you are happy with the performance, please do not touch the Diagnostic Mode.

just tried it out for an hour and seemed to work great. was getting good consistent reading and basically within 10% of my skytrak. I think I'll start putting together some videos with my thoughts

Definitely an improvement! Played a whole round with no issues. There was one time that I tried putting too far from the bluetooth dongle and it couldn't read the sensor. I quickly then used a USB extension cable (highly recommended) to extend the distance from my PC to my putting area - worked flawlessly after that. Still dialing in my clubs a bit but the launch angles do look much better overall.

Did you happen to notice if backspin on wedges was any different?

I was just looking at just Ball Speed and Launch Angle. In general I had to up the loft on my clubs about 2 or 3 degrees. I'll take a look at spin next...

Downloaded the update and it worked great for me. Checked backspin numbers on PW and they were up quite a bit from my previous numbers. I was averaging around 6850. Also 7 iron backspin was a bit lower than before. Averaged around 5600. I'm no expert on spin numbers but I think these are closer to what one might expect?

The update is great. You can now stop a ball with a wedge! Thank you Rapsodo for taking your customers' suggestions and implementing them. This is a great product already and continues getting better!

tom3408 and rhart My sentiments exactly. Really liking this product. I'm hoping they add hybrids to the clubset soon. I just bought another hybrid and now carry a 3 through 6. I don't carry a 3-5 iron or a 5 wood so I would really like to see a custom clubset option. What do you guys do with your Hybrids if you carry any? I currently have the 3h through 5h as my 3i through 5i and the 6h as my 5 wood. It seems to work OK after I change to length and loft but I'd rather it show I'm hitting the right club.

Yep, hopefully that is taken care of with TGC2 (release date for PC/Consoles is officially June 27th). Not sure how that translates to the SIM version.

I have the same issue with wedges, I carry a PW, 50, 55, and 60 but TGC only allows for a PW, SW, and LW.

For the wedges, I just matched them to the closest default club rather than the corresponding name. If you have a PW and a 50, I'm guessing your PW is 44-46. The default 9i is 45, if I remember correctly. So I called my pw a 9, gap a pw, 54 a sand and 58 a lob. As to the hybrids, I tried labeling my 3 a 3 iron and my 4 a 5 wood. But neither seems to travel a realistic distance or have a realistic smash factor. Also, they both read more closed than the other clubs. I suspect that the algorithm is based on the vibratory and offset characteristics of a 3 iron and a 3h has very different response to both. I know the names of the clubs are set in tgc, but I wish rhapsodo could have a hybrid option for their algorithm (like selecting junior clubs) so that the flight was more realistic.

Yeah, I thought originally preset offsets for clubs would matter but if all it is measuring is a square clubface at address and impact, I don't see how offset plays a part.

Ok. well, I had a chance to test the 1.2.7 beta, and yes it's still beta. I'm glad people are having good luck with r-motion. I'm not. It does seem to play better although I was never able to complete more than 3 holes without the sensor locking up in with a blue LED. I turned DEBUG on so Rapsodo should have all many samples to deal with including the sensor lockup. I have graphite shafts on my clubs, which kind of have a vibration on a strike that metal irons don't [the Striker Super Shaft]. Because of the blue LED lockup it's still not ready for prime time. That and on one 6 iron strike, I manged to hit so hard it popped the lid on the sensor open. I guess like the clips, you need to watch out for the lid coming off. I'll post a picture of that later. The most frustrating part were the hooks and slices to on my driver and 6 iron. while some were good calls, most of my slices seemed to be way off. So I tried positioning the sensors and the all seemed to indicate a need for a 5 degree counter clockwise rotation on the club from the aiming line. I'm going to agree with everyone that there is a lot to be desired with the clip design. For on thing, how come you designed the sensor to slide in upside down on the clip!

I still think the TGc is over priced at 798.00 for the 'FULL' system + shipping for a 19 dollar sensor and some magical beta level software. So please Rapsodo, please make a new 1.2.8 version that doesn't lock up the sensor.

Send your device back to Rapsodo for inspection. You should be able to play a round of golf without any serious issues. Contact the Rapsodo Helpdesk ( http://rmotiongolf.com/contact/ ) and request an RMA.

It's a shame you're having so many issues. Mine is working great accept for the clip issues. Tried using the putty on the sensor again today and it flew off twice in 6 holes. The 2nd time it took me over a half an hour to find it. It was eventually found with me climbing up a ladder and finding it up in the ceiling laying behind a 2x4. My garage is only partially finished so I have some openings but this thing had to just at the perfect angle to end up where it did. Any chance something else is interfering with your
Bluetooth? Also, have you tried contacting Rapsodo to get a replacement sensor and dongle? Maybe you just got a lemon. Worth a shot I would think.

I know what you mean. I've been struggling with the game since day one. The idea is great. No doubt about it. That's why I bought it. The design of the Server and it's middle ware linkage into The Golf Club (TGC) is way cool. When I got my Zepp 1 swing analyzer this past x-mas i was so impressed by its engineering and design I thought this would be the same. I've had the R-motion about a month now. If there is one idea the Zepp uses that I would try to borrow for the next R-motion design it would be a glove attached sensor. Apparently I'm putting in enough g's to pop the lid on the r-motion sensor with the current design.

I would love to see the R-motion middleware server as open-source as "many eyes" "many brains" can really do wonders on a challenging problem like taking a clubs motion and translating it into a ball strike with all of the parameters like spin, speed, direction.

My last question is "how do you replace the batteries"? on the $299 device?

Well I finally experienced my first issues with r-motion and tgc. I had a friend over last night and we were playing. Everything was perfect, smooth sailing. We finished the 16th hole and both teed off on 17. The sensor went solid blue and wouldn't turn green. We thumped it a few times and nothing. So I closed everything out and restarted. When we got back in it went back to the 16th hole with him teeing off and my ball up by the green. When we finished the hole the score card came up and it had my round correct but the rest of his scores were gone other than the 16th. Got to the 17th tee hit tee shots and again same thing. Logged back in after a restart and all of the above stated happened again. This happened two more times. Finally on the 5th time we finished the round, but it only showed his score for the last 3 holes. Not a huge deal, but it was frustrating as I've been telling him how great it has been working.

This is a TGC issue. Do not restart TGC when you are in multiplayer mode. It will not keep track of the guest player scoring. There is also no reason to restart TGC. Just switch to the R-Motion interface and restart just the interface.

I downloaded the beta this morning, hit on the range for a while then played the par 3.

The good: almost zero delay now between contact and shot appearing on screen. So fast that I often miss the initial part if I hold my finish. Pure shots now travel farther than other shots! (I think this was only a problem for me before but in previous versions pured shots never went very far). I'm no longer getting extremely closed club face readings and while my 3 hybrid (listed as a 3i) still doesn't go the same distance as the real club, it is way closer now (to the point where usueable in games). Like others mentioned, I now get more backspin with short irons and wedges into greens. I held 2 of the par 3 greens from 140ish yards!

The bad: On all previous versions, my swing would read as anywhere from 3 to 7 degrees in to out. Now, must shots read 1-2 degrees out to in. This means I no longer get the weird left hooks (when the ball would hit the right half of my net), but I find it weird that such a fundamental component of my swing would change that much between versions. Maybe the old one was just very wrong? I will say that I wish my real world ball flight was as pretty as what r motion is now showing. One counter to this is that now, when I slice off the toe, the r motion shows a low slice. Before, it would still show a hook.

The ugly: the red liner of another clip tore. Most concerningly, the front of the sensor separated from the rest of the sensor and had to be snapped back into place on multiple shots. Yikes! It always snapped back, but makes me worried for long term.

All in all, this is a great upgrade. I had no freezing, no bizarre shots. Who knows, maybe my work with my pro has moved me from an in-to-out to out-to-in swing and rmotion is right? The opening sensor is freaking me out a bit. But the game itself is now fun to play, trouble free and close enough to my real world flight to make it useful as a practice tool.

                  Hello. A few quick comments.
                  1. Changes in swing path such as that one likely caused by placement. Please ensure the sensor is placed correctly. Help screen has the diagrams.

                  2. I am sorry that the cover dislocated. We are looking at this as a very important issue and I apologize. You can write to support and we are happy to replace your sensor.

              • #14
Multiple reports of the sensor coming apart is concerning. I wonder if the constant movement of the sensor between clips (70-100 shots per round) was tested. I would say just super glue it the next time it happens but I would also hope Rapsodo would identify this as an issue and offer replacements. The sensor should not come apart ever, much less after only a short time of owning it.

This release has fixed most of my issues I was having and I enjoyed playing today. The only thing now is I need to figure out why my driver shots never read. Every other club is fine but the driver never ever reads.
I let my daughter play today also and it went very well. She had a blast unlike before when it wouldn't read many of her shots.
