  • Purchasing courses

As someone who is new to the golf scene but not to video games I must say this is absolutely rediculous how much it costs for courses. So its either these 13 courses for free or $650 to play a tonne of them and online? Why not like 29.99 a month or buy packages of courses. The fact that online isnt free is horrible... any other game coming out like that would cause a problems all over the gaming world.

however this isnt the gaming world, this market is people designing golf setups in their own homes, they know you have money and don't think about what a game SHOULD cost. I am not saying all courses should be free and i realize it should cost that much for ALL courses... but have some sort of middle ground and allow online play for free with friends that have those courses. Right now this is laughable im thinking of sharing this with the gaming community on reddit. Just imagine tiger woods golf comes out on xbox and you cant play online and only 13 courses... no memory of your games... no career mode... this is like EA level terrible.

Rmotion works great I must add. Having a lot of fun even tho I would enjoy playing on a few more courses if i could afford it. Video games cost $60 and are generally filled with 100x the content of this. If we are paying for it in the Rmotion bundle because its the only program that works than rapsodo just doesnt care. Due to this I would definitely not reccomend this product (rmotion) Maybe if JNPG worked on it...heres hope for the future.

I guess you are talking about R-motion - I do not know to much about but let me at least tell you why I think it is more than the xbox. There are thousands of Xbox users...so when a company spends thousands on a new product they can sell it for 50 buck each because they expect to sell 300,000 of them. In the SIM world, they might only sell 2,000 so they much charge more.

I think all the software companies pricing is pretty good - minus the new E6 connect ....just seems high to me, but perhaps once it out and folks talk about it will be worth what they are asking.

As penrose says the market is much smaller so costs reflect that. Is the $650 to upgrade to a full TGC license? If so I think that is a bit of a bargain. The golf simulator world is not cheap look at the main players in the market and you will see what good value that is.

Unless they raised the price it is actually $500 for the full TGC license for R Motion.

I think it is a bit silly to compare console video games to golf SIM software. If you want a game that acts as a golf SIM where courses can be bought, get yourself an Optishot for a few hundred bucks.

I'm just a little baffled that you didn't do research prior to purchasing. I'm also pretty sure the gaming community on Reddit doesn't care about golf simulation products.

Haha! You definately haven’t played FIFA 🙈
google FIFA-packs and you’ll se What ”your Gaming community” spends on Gaming. 😂
$500 is a Bargain for a lifetime license. Including the upgrade to TGC 2019.

Seriosly, you can’t compare oranges with apples. Golf simulators are for enthusiasts and golf-Players wanting to improve their IRL game or maintaining a swing during off-season. Its fair to pay What the developers need to make it possible.
We (the simulator community) dont complain, we love it! We (the simulator community) is built up by all kinds of people, i can assure you that there’s a lot of ”gamers” here as Well.

          good luck and welcome

FIFA EA is pay 2 win, and gets horrible hate on the internet for it.

There are rich kids that pay that much you are right. They are not the norm. There are also wealthier golfers thinking $650 a year for extra courses and basic online play is a bargain.

I agree smaller market they have to do what they can to stay alive....
I also said this is fine when you consider there are 10000 courses. But WHY is there no in between options? 50 dollar course pack or something, and online should be free with the demo I strongly believe, that is basic. I would pay for that and give them money today if I could.. but im not dropping $650 for extra courses.

I hope one day the R-motion can use the programs like the optishot as you say, but i read these forums and others and thought the r-motion was a better product.

I see the first post came on strong but really I just want options here and basic online play. I do not think that is a big deal. $650 a year is too much as there is no way I could play all those courses.

I thought the license is per year not lifetime??

If so I honestly take back everything about that lol. That is fair if it is lifetime.

i still firmly believe they would make money off less wealthy enthusiasts like me if they offered some middle ground packages for courses. Hell they could even charge 19.99 per course and id slowly get more and more.

It is 500 USD which is 650 canadian, thats why I used that number.

Not to beat a dead horse but look at iracing

subscription service to the top racing simulator community is monthly 10 dollars. They charge up to 20 dollars for certain cars..but there is no initial huge fee. You can drop in or drop out monthly, and build up a set of cars over time when you can afford it. You can buy yearly subscriptions for a discount.

TGC would.already have more of my money by now if they had the same system. But as it is (especially if only for 1 year) is too much for people like me unfortunately.

                Some middle ground is needed.

I've had my Skytrak since Spring of last year. I purchase the PIP so I could have a sim of some sort to try out before diving in to get TGC. My plan was to

It’s not yearly. It’s lifetime. It has also been posted on here that it will be a free upgrade to TGC 2019 but I can’t confirm that. I’m not sure Rapsodo has actually came out and said that?

BTW, I also wish there was something in between. I owned Optishot also and did like the fact you could buy courses for a reasonable price. I certainly don’t need 100,000+ courses which I can assume most are not very good. I would like the option to purchase the “good ones”. Pebble Beach and Augusta come to mind.

Wow thanks for pointing that out, that really changes everything! Free upgrade and lifetime one purchase at that price is very very reasonable. I still wish there was a middle option also or monthly subscription as I will still have to consider this. But that is very good. I don't know why I assumed it was yearly, I will be using the R-motion for another few years so that is not bad at all.

wish I would have saw that before the initial rant lol

                        thanks again and cheers

Great to here! Yeah you did come out a bit rough LOL. No worries, make a payment plan of 5 years 😉
$500/5/12= $8,33 a month. And there you Have it 👍

I agree with the original poster. Frankly, because of the limited courses and no internet mode of play, I find the TGC very boring. I signed up for the Tournament mode in Optishot because for all of the timely PGA tournament courses and then the challenge of climbing the leaderboard and playing for swag. At $49/yr it reasonable. But I've beefed about TGC before. The full TGC game and 10000 courses is online at Steam for $29, but just because we have SIMs the game is shipped with half of the stuff stripped out. That said, the new R-motion I have is working very well. I'm looking forward to the 2nd generation of TGC and I hope they at least turn internet play on.

I have Optishot and it's a fun game but no where near a simulator. Plus the courses are no where near the detail as TGC. I have been in touch with R Motion and they have no idea when the upgrade to TGC 2019 will be available. They have been promising it for over a year. I don’t believe it is coming they have dropped their price for R Motion by 25%. This to me is a sign there isn’t anything more coming out.

In followup to nbar, Optishot isn't bad at all. I think it smokes the R-motion and TGC both (IMHO). You just have to do more to make Optishot work. Sensor-wise the Opti is optical, building a small infrared box around the ball. For realistic play, you need your stance on the same plane as the ball, which means you need a thick mat to put the Optishot in. The Ultimat2 is simply awesome for this. Because of the optical nature of Opti, and the fixed infrared LEDs, you will get true club speed measurements, good clubface angles, ball strike location (toe, slight toe, center, slight heel, and heel), If you don't swing well, it will show in ball flight. You may need to tape-up drivers, woods. Specifically, if they have very large reflective patterns, the reflected light can scatter causing issues in measurements. I still think it has great gameplay and I still find the courses challenging. That and I really enjoy playing with some great players online. If I had a wish for Optishot, it would be to improve the photo-realism of the graphics.

That said, everyone has their favorites for one reason or another.
