  • Tournaments and HCP

Ok, I didn't want to but I have to bring up HCP's! I will want to play in the tournaments soon. Just getting my setup all nice and ready...lol.

I look at this weeks leader and a 12HCP player shoots 78 twice. My guess is that HCP's are from the TGC system, not tournament play, correct?

For a HCP tournament to work and be fair players must have buy-in to shooting their best scores. We have a real life HCP tour in my area (Oklahoma and Texas) check it out www.fairwaygolftour.com it's run by a great guy for over 20 years I think. You can see that near par wins every time. He has lot's of rules that help sandbagging from occuring.

Is there any chance of there being a GROSS tournament somewhere...or HCP's being added/taken away on the website based on previous scores. Meaning TGC system doesn't give you a handicap but your actual tournament rounds do!?! Only way it works in my opinion.

The Gross leaderboard is directly below the net.

The handicaps are from tournaments, not the TGC system. What usually ends up happening is that someone buys TGC and plays Q school. They aren't used to the short game or swinging inside for their first 5+ rounds so they shoot some high scores and get a tournament handicap. Then they start to get the feel for chipping and putting and can quickly drop their scores so they get the net -10 or -12 for a few tournaments. Then everything equalizes and they start shooting around net par or a few over. There have been lots of new players this year, so every week it seems like someone posts a really low number.

Fair enough, and sounds about how it's going for me..lol. Thanks for the feedback, and good to hear there is a bit more control there, even though it sounds like some additional retraints could be put in place. The IRL tour I mentioned has a limit on NET score until they are a full member. It helps with what you mention. No big deal though here...we aren't playing for 1,000's of dollars online Thanks again for the info.

Tour hcp is based on tour rounds. Read up on it in the online play section. It has nothing to do with TGC hcp

That's good to hear. Honestly I'm having difficulty figuring out where to signup and what to do to get started. Here in the forums there is the Tournaments TAB. Click on that and it takes you to the website... over there it says...Sign In and it takes me to the forums! ?!?!

I need to get my online account linked up for shot tracking and such. Found a post about that, will try and get that figured out today.

Maybe I'll run across how to get started in my searches today. Thanks again for the info about the HCP, that's good news...

I think you will find the tour is pretty fair and very fun. My only complaint is I wish the max course yardage would be set to 6500. And be careful of course that show 6400 yards but all the par 3 are like 120. This weeks course is perfect from my view point.

Now I understand there are very good golfers on here, so I do understand why there has to be a mix. Hopefully, with 2018 and different tees we can have our cake and eat it as well.

Yea no big deal about the HCP, I'd play anyway, it's all about fun anyway. Doing "my" best is all I'd want to do. I played on TGCTours and got to European Tour but would barly make the cut...so my goal was to make the cut! That was a win for me..lol.

On a different note, if any of you guys know. I'm guessing there is a LIMIT or NO boosting club settings. Should I get use to what the DEFAULTS are? You could boost the numbers physically by moving the sensor higher, not sure how much from the normal settings there is to slide it up. I'm not wanting to cheat by any means...but don't want to hit my 6 iron 160 lol.

Thanks for any further info or links to help get me started!

Max boost of +/- 5% on any setting. If you live in Denver, this will not be enough to match your local distance. But it more or less provides a level playing field. I should clarify..... you can't match your Denver elevation and then add 5%. Use default settings with a max of 5% allowed. GSA users should not use the default scale that is indicated in the control panel. You will need to take a measurement between two balls laying in the FOV. Then do the math and adjust your scale accordingly. That will give you sea level settings. From there you are allowed 5%, to perhaps bring you closer to your elevation. GSA users can PM me if the explanation is not clear.

So to confirm when you say 5% that is 5% of the YARDAGE TGC shows a club to go...ie 265 for driver etc?

Can I have two profiles setup inside R-Motion so my casual rounds play more like me IRL. If so how would that be setup...as R-Motion looks at my player name in TGC to assign the profile for clubs. That name has to be what the forum has been linked to.

Thanks for clarifying a few things. I am going to try and play Houston tomorrow and certainly don't want to break any rules.

PS: It will be my first round and my local HCP is ridiculous, that won't be used on tour correct? I'd have to do Q School or several tourney rounds I'm guessing.
Working...
