  • Michigan Golfers!

Where are you located? Have you created any of your local courses? If so, post them here so we can all check them out!

About Me: Located in Millington, MI (about 10 miles east of Frankenmuth)

    Courses I've created:

Vassar (Old) - Blue Tees 6491
    Timbers - Blue Tees 6422
    Willow Springs - Blue Tees
    Beachwood - White Tees 2007

All Courses are located in Vassar, MI 48768, with the exception of Beachwood, which is in Mt Morris, MI 48458. I also have several variations of the above, white and red tees. Front 9, and Back 9 options, etc.. (All created under my playstation username DeadlyCS)

What about The Bear and The Wolverine at Grand Traverse Resort? They are Nicklaus and Player designed, respectively. I've been looking and can't seem to find either. I'm heading there in August.

Nice courses, especially the bear. Had a couple golf trips there throughout the years.

I've played Arcadia Bluffs, Harbor Shores, UM Golf Course, Red Hawk Golf Club (East Tawas) for real and on TGC 2019. All well done for the simulator. St Ives is good on the sim.

Another forum member is having Gull Lake View East and North done currently. Would be great to get Stoatin Brae. If you haven't played it, it is one of the most unique courses in Southwest Michigan.

I've only had the setup for a month. I tried to do Hawkshead using OSM and Chad's tool. I believe I have the OSM done pretty well as the course is playable. Took 20+ hours for me to get to this point. However, the elevation is off (course imports 30+ feet higher than default terrain) and I haven't tried to do any of the dressing in the designer tool.

Would love to have Point O' Woods done. For that matter, I see the Point and the Moors in Portage appear to be all mapped out in OSM. I can't find them in TGC 2019. Does anybody know why they get mapped in OSM otherwise? Guessing there may be other uses, I just don't know what that is.

Stoatin Brae is completely splined in OSM so it may be published in TGC 2019. If not, since the splining is done it would be easy to make a quick copy. However I have never played it and would have to use Google maps and maybe pics from the course website to add detail. Maybe my next project but I would need someone to play and review a Beta copy before I published a final copy.

When you say that the your course is 30' above the surrounding terrain, that is normal and as long as the course itself is correct you should never be able to tell when playing. If you masked the course super tight then you may see it but you can just raise the area bordering the course in the designer to hide it.

Seemed I had to mask it tight to get it to load without 'using all the objects' issue. I tried raising the adjacent terrain in the designer, so understand what you mean. I'm still gathering motivation to take the next step and learn the designer portion.

"Stoatin Brae (L)" is in TGC. I checked first couple holes, looks fine. Clearly things change quickly! Thanks for pointing this out. Makes me wonder if Point O' Woods or the Moors are in there somewhere as they are completely done in OSM as well. I previously searched those and didn't find them.

Stoatin Brae does look really good and looks like it is getting some serious national attention.

Its ok. I played it a couple times this year.

With Tawas Lidar it would be good to do The Gailes and Blackshire. Unfortunately blackshire was in terrible condition this year and it looks like they were just keeping up the gailes. The Wee links behind the condos/hotel rooms was just awful.

I played Stoatin Brae tonight on the sim. Tees, fairway, bunkers, greens play very realistically. Designer did a nice job capturing the essence of this track. Scenic views given relatively high altitude of course are represented well in the sim, but even more beautiful in real life. Scrub areas between holes play easier in sim than real life as the real scrub is nasty and often you are lucky to find your ball with minimal chance to play it.

Great to see this in the sim!

Any chance you are doing the New course? Amazing how different these two are on the same property. The size of the 18th green on the old is crazy, usually three putt more often than not.

No plans for the new course right now definitely down the road. Old course is my Dads favorite of the two so wanted to do that one first. 18 green is huge, lots of mounds to make it hard to put close.

I created my home course, “Wawonowin CC Lidar V2”
4 sets of pins and tees. Located in the UP. I did put a ton of work into this one, im a member there and tried to plant the course to be as close to exact as possible. Id love if some of you would give it a few plays.

i prefer to put greens to soft and slow for my sim experience.

Might do another course or 2 in the UP this winter if Lidar is available. Perhaps Sweetgrass, as i love that course.

Someone did Greywalls which is close to me, however they screwed up bad on a few pins, making putting unplayable
