  • Club Suggestion Setting Changes

    Hey All,

Just getting started with TGC. Really working my way around the system and figuring everything out. Last night I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to get into the "Tour" - Q- School and turning on shot recording, making a profile etc.

I only get so much time to use the sim due to a newborn so I want to focus on getting on and playing. I got about 2 holes in last night and had to stop due to family needs.

Point is - I am looking for easier way to figure out the whole "Club Suggestion" i see on screen during play. I looked again today and spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get that changed and had no idea where to do and gave up. Can I set that up to reflect my distances? It seemed automated... I never even went to the range, set up my bag or anything. I don't even know if there is a way to do that... but if I am going to have this software suggest clubs, I would like them to be my clubs.

Could someone point me in the right direction or give me a quick walk through? I didn't find anything on the forum while searching keywords.

    Thank you!

The club suggestion is to do with the video game and not the sim. You do not need to pay attention to it other than when your putting.

      Thanks for the heads up!

Not sure if you know this, but I’m on Skytrak, and I’ll get a notification that it’s going into “putting mode” but I’ll still have a lob wedge showing as my suggested club when I’m just off the green.

It seems to work fine... but is that wrong or giving me bad readings?

The clubs won't matter unless you're trying to putt from a few yards off the green and say the lob wedge is selected.

the clubs are not irrelevant if you start messing with the per club Boost settings in GSX

I might add changing club setting also changes zoom view when hitting Q key. It doesn't matter what club u use when u hit on sim but if u want to check where u are aimed before hitting use Q key

That makes sense. I suppose I don't mind it, but I played my first full round today and noticed MANY times, I would be in the rough from 160+ yards, but the club suggestion was a 75 yard pitching wedge. That isn't a big deal, until I realized the was literally looking the wrong way. Had I not move my view back to the pin/green, I would have hit a 160 yard shot dead right as if the sim just wanted me to get back into the fairway. Pretty annoying and cost me a lot of time walking back and forth to change the aimpoint of each shot when i missed the fairway.

Apparently you will be able to change the setup of your bag in 2019, which will again only help with zooming to you landing distances

Other than view/zoom convenience, club selection might be important with:
        - chipping on the green (if you chip with the putter selected, shot in the sim will be quite different than what you might expect!): it doesn't occurs often but it may happen...
        - tracking your stats through shot recording (club in the shot recorded will be the one selected in the game)

@calebm1001 Like everyone stated, the club selection for the most part doesn't matter. You can have Lob Wedge selected and hit your driver. The rule of thumb is, you can have any club selected except for Putter for all shots not putting. But if you are on the green you want the Putter selected in TGC. It should auto select putter once on green. Now here is the scenario to pay attention to...if you are on the fringe and you want to putt it instead of chipping you will want to make sure you change to Putter selected in TGC.

One annoying thing in TGC is if you hit in rough, many times the game auto selects a wedge and aims you way off for laying back in fairway. I hate this! So you need to aim back the direction you want, and you will want to change your club selection to a longer club so when you zoom it goes further zooming toward the green.

You can also turn on the mini map and use your mouse to click on the map and it will auto aim where you click on map. This helps a lot because it will show you your distance where you move the mouse on map.

To make game play a little easier I highly recommend you get an iPad and setup the Airkeyboard Remote for TGC. This will let you easily aim, change the clubs, zoom, etc. Go to this forum on how to set this up.

I wanted to share the remote keyboard screen I created with anyone that wants to use it. See screen shot attached. The buttons are mapped to the keyboard to
