  • Chipping and putting in TGC/TGC 2019

I wonder if the ability to do a choosable height, 360 circle view/orbit of the green would make getting a feel the contours for putting/chipping closer to the real thing? Get a more lifelike feeling of how the green lays and how the contours will roll. You can kind of do that in the last TGC, not very much at all in 2019. Seems like it might be a fairly easy thing to incorporate, sort of a smaller version of the hole flyby.

GREAT game but putting/chipping is by far the least realistic feeling part of it.

I find putting and chipping extremely accurate in TGC 2019.
I share your view on the feeling though: it's much more about mathematics and calibration of your shots than it is in real golf (sim means always perfect/flat lie) but it helped me a lot to be consistent around the green.
Now, when I don't reach the expected target in short game, I know that I did not hit it perfectly or I know I misjudged the slopes.
I wish I had all slope info of TGC in real life!

You mean like a flyby scanning the whole green from say 50 yards out? Sounds good.
what do you feel is off with chipping and putting? I find it better.
Do you think it's just different you are used to TGC or is it that it's not as good?

I found the navigational tools far easier to use in TGC over TGC 2019, at least to this point. In 2019 the scroll wheel is ulta touchy and mousing around is also hair trigger. 2019 doesn't seem to have the view from different angles thing. (E key + V maybe?) When you hit the Q or E key, in the older TGC the ability to raise/lower eye level, look at the putt from different angles and back out/sweep around gave me a better feel of how the green actually sits.
In 2019 the scroll wheel is ulta touchy and mousing around is also hair trigger. (And in my installation the recommended C key doesn't remove/replace the flag).
I think the actual mechanics of the chipping and putting are fine in 2019 I just find it more difficult to get an idea of how the green breaks and turns, and the depth of it.

The flyby would give a nice overview and the the Q and E keys you could use to hone the details?

Truly appreciate the response BTW, thanks!

So I went out to my SkyTrak setup and played TGC 2019 and the last TGC. (After updating to version 4.06)
The main difference I found was in the previous TGC when you get on the green you can hit the E key and it will give you a different view of the putt, then if you hit the V key it will give you a view from the opposite side of the pin, hit the V again and you get a right angle from the left, V again right angle from he right and V once more gives you a view from above. (and the F key pulls/replaces the flag).
That doesn't seem to be the case in 2019 and they were features I found very useful.

Don't mean to beat this to death but I thought supplying the exact key strokes comparing the two versions might help clarify my post.

        Cheers!

BTW there are certainly a ton of lovely new features in 2019!
