Hi Guys, I'm wanting to start a discussion regarding the greens in TGC, what are peoples' thoughts regarding speed, firmness, slope, pin placement etc?? Perhaps if we can come to some consensus, Craig118 could factor this in to alterations of course files that become available.

I like the speed on Pine valley. And personally I like a green with elephants buried in it. We play 6600 yard courses. The greens are the defense. And personally I like the fact that you don't see all these scores being posted at -12 and -10. From what I have seen the scores are relative to ability now.
But I will say this also, I have played a few courses on here that in no way could be possible in real life. I have carpet that stimps at probably 15 and a 6 ft putt on my carpet goes 35 ft on the screen. And that was a pretty flat putt. But once again Pine valley felt perfect to me.Protee

For me in real life golf I hit a high ball so when hitting into our greens on my home course, anything from a 8 iron to wedges come in high and stop within a couple feet of the ball mark. This is on soft greens. I don't get a bunch of back spin but they stop.
On TGC I still get high LA but the ball will not stop on the greens. It may be due to needing a lot more spin to get TGC greens to make a ball stop. I don't have any added spin as I think all us GC2 users are leaving that at 0. For my flop shots they stop quick but that is due to the 40 plus deg LA. For Protee I think the back spin is a calculation so you guys may not notice issues with getting a ball to stop or do you guys still see this. I also seen that the type of hitting mat can create more backspin and in some cases too much.
As for putting I set my GSX putt speed to 13. What are other GC2 users doing?
I also think that when you have a putt on a side hill (not sure why they would stop there if it was so severe) the first couple feet really react on the balls direction. This should be the putts fastest ball speed and if you are hitting a 20 foot or more putt, this first few feet should not effect the putt that much, at least I would think.
Also in the course setup, is it the fairway firmness that creates the green speed? So if that is true, do we give up fairway roll to get softer greens?
Overall a lot of the pins on the greens are in places that are unreal for the average golfer. The greens may be ok but the pin placement could make things easier.

Interesting read on the HB-Studios relating to putting psychics. Also I would agree that medium putting and medium fairways seem best. Also, I would agree with SFR that the real issue may relate to pin placement; pins should be placed in a relatively flat areas, and not on the side of a hill, or on the edges of greens that run away or are right beside bunkers, especially if a longer approach shot is called for. As an aside does anyone remember the Payne Stewart Olympic US Open pin placement debacle? One that definitely got away from the USGA.
