  • TGC Driving Ranges

Since the introduction of "auto-rewind" it has become possible to create driving ranges.

I'd like to ask for input from members who have found usable driving ranges to share their findings and impressions.

Maybe it's me, but I tried one version (with multiple holes) and got all hung up with the auto-rewind which wouldn't let me advance to the next hole, and then bumped me back from the one I wanted. And, for instance, how do I get to the 6th hole which is designed for say, 4 irons, without going through the previous 5 "holes"

My preference would be for a "traditional" driving range like the ProTee version. Not multi-hole types. One range where I can choose the club and hit repeatedly until choosing another club. Not interested in the H2O version either.

Does this driving range exist in TGC?

Search for Range then try some. There's ussually a pic when click on it which will give you an idea of what's there. There's some out there like you're asking for. I can't think of any names right now.

I used a couple on Saturday with the Auto Rewind feature - and it worked well. There were a few really stupid ones where you were suspended miles in the air, and each shot took 30 seconds to hit the ground!

I ended up using one I think was called Tropical Range, and it was just a 500yard+ long straight hole, with a bit of water for the first 50 yards. The fairway was reasonably wide, so I could see where my shot went. I played it for about an hour with various clubs to practice my swing.
After that I loaded up the official TGC 9 hole course, and kept putting Auto Rewind on when on the tee and practicing the same tee shot over and over. Once I got bored, I turned AR off, and played that hole - and did the same at the next one!

Might as well wait until the ProTee Driving Range Design Contest (announced today, coincidentally) ends and see what we end up with for a traditional range.
