I was thinking the same Bubba. I know some of those guys would be pretty motivated by the prize money here...and i'm sure we'd see some great efforts. In the end this contest will hopefully produce multiple great ranges for everyone to use.

I don't have the time or the skills to attempt this, but i'm hoping someone can pull something off where the range area is all fairway, and then green surface is used to "paint" lines across the range at the 100, 150, 200, etc. marks. Not sure whether fine/detailed work can be done using those surfaces, but it would be great if the numbers could also be created on the grass using the green surface. Not quite as clear as white paint, but so long as it can be made out okay it would do the trick.

Please do not post on HB forums. This is a Sim contest. We will have another contest later.

I just published a second version of a driving range. Not much changed other than when you start you are set up for the 200 yd green and thus when you hit "e" to see the layout you can see the yardage markers for all the range and greens to hit to. By having more than one tee you can use actual holes with flags so even the chipping green has holes to chip to.

Yardages for greens are 50,75,100,125,150,175 and 200. After that it is just range. The chipping green as well. The auto rewind works great now and you just re aim your line as to where you want to practice.

New range is called "Range Protee SFR"

                Lets see others ideas.....

Just tweaked my range and is now "Range 2 Protee SFR" new name with slight changes.

Chipping green pins are at 10, 20, 30 and 40 yds.

After that greens are at 50,75,100,125,150,175 and 200 which is where you start your aim at. If you want to hit woods the range is marked out in 20 yd path lines after the 200 yd green straight away up to 400 yds.

The yellow yardage markers on the sides are 20 yds off center, the path lines end about 40 yds off center. This lets you hit and see your off line without needing to have the shot display after every shot.

The idea is meant to be able to start the range and aim to any green yardage you want to practice and turn on auto rewind. Move your aim line to any other area to practice including the chipping green. If you want to play the range, the first hole is the 200 yd green and then 2,3,4 and 5 are the chipping greens for a bit of chip and putt practice with only one hole to play to get there.

Have not seen any other ideas posted here. What have others done since auto rewind? Could add animals in the range to try and hit as that would be fun for the kids....

SFR, I just hit about 150 on your first range. Great job! I officially will never go back to the Red Chain range.

I like what you did 250-300 yards out. That's a nice target.

This sounds great! I'll have to take a look...

Question (since I haven't been able to actually play rounds on my simulator yet)... Does the simulator version remember if you have an in-progress round on each course to resume when you select it? If so, you could publish this same range under 3-4 different names. Players could then get each version to the point they want (eg. "Range 3" for chipping) by playing the hole(s) up to that point and then put on auto-rewind and just exit when they're done. If it remembers/resumes progress on a course, it should go back to that point each time the range is selected for play.

I know this clutters up the course database even more, but until HB gives more options when selecting a course (what tees to play, what hole to start on, etc.) releasing multiple versions is the only real option.

It remembers for the last course or tournament played.

Yes you are right, that if you quit a round part way through you can start at that point when it gives the option to start a new round or continue round but I think just that last one you played. (I see protee beat me to the punch)

However the idea about the Ranges were to make one that you could practice any shot right off the start and not need to play through any holes. For example on the one I posted, you start on what the game thinks is hole 1 which points you straight down the range and gives a target green at 200 yds. You don't need to play that green as your target. If you want to just aim your view to any other yardage green you just hit to that one and see the results. If you want to hit driver, then the area beyond the 200 yd green is a basic range with 20 yd lines marked out. If you wanted to just practice chips to a green at 40 yds or less to 10 yds, you just move your aim to the right where the chipping green is.

The only reason form mine, to want to play hole 1 as a course game, is so that the next 4 holes are the chipping green and if you wanted to practice putting as well you could either play those 4 holes with chips and putts or start the auto rewind once on that green and just putt to any of the 4 holes. You could do the same though by just hitting your first shot onto the chipping green and then turn on auto rewind and putt to any of the 4 holes.

The reason to set up more than one hole is so that when you create targets or greens to hit toward, you can then place a flag and have an actual hole in case you want to see one go in once and a while. Without multi holes set up I don't think you can place flags on dummy greens so then you could not have a putting green either.

SFR Create whatever you feel works! I do have my doubts about kids trying to kill animals. Not sure if Mom and Dad will be happy with this

Be creative. Looking forward to try it all out!
