  • Real Courses

With so many great real courses having been published in the last year I think we are overdue for a new post that lists the course, yardage and rating. Even better would be some tab in here where we could sort and rate on and individual basis to get an overall rating. Thoughts??

That would be great. TGCtours.com has a sortable list of top courses, but I believe it doesn't include the ProTee course versions or have yardage as a field. It would be great to have a way to sort courses by yardage.

I second that request. In a perfect world, the in-game filters would be expanded to allow players to search for courses in a given range and indicate whether to include Fictional, Real or Both (would require a new property to be defined for each course when designers create them...so back-updating existing courses would be an issue) and would also allow a yardage range to be specified. I generally only play courses in the 6000-6400 yard range.

If it's a perfect world we're talking about... It would be great if we could play any course, and pick from all the different tee locations. Whites, reds, blues, etc. Why limit ourselves to only those courses that someone went out of their way to shorten for us? Creating multiple tees should be a built-in part of the course generation.

Absolutely we all want that...but I think it's a fundamental change to how the engine is constructed. A bit limitation for me right now is playing with my 7 and 11 year old sons. In red chain they could play red tees and I could play white or blue. In TGC we don't have that option and I really miss it.

That change would also reduce the clutter in the course database...if multiple tees and pin positions could be defined, you wouldn't have the same course posted in 6 different configurations.

I agree that in the "perfect world" multiple tees and pin locations would be a ideal! But as that doesn't seem to be on the horizon, the sort-able course list would be great.

Great idea! If one of you can start a new post and maintain the list in the top post for now, we will look for a technical solution to make it sortable.

What's the name of this version of Merion? There are a few out there.

Yeah, I would love a better list of real courses, that are playable for our customers. One of the issue I run into is finding the right course with the right yardage. Between 6000-6700 seems to be ok for most. Once you get over 6700 you need to be really playing the ball.

Normally I just search ProTee in the search but there is only so many that have ProTee in the name.

There should be several good courses in that range after the next update. I've been trying a lot of courses out on the PC as people release them (yes, I've procrastinated on my day job far too much lately) and for all of the really good ones I've been requesting shortened ProTee versions. Most of the designers are happy to do it which is awesome.

A filter for length range when filtering courses would be fantastic if we could get that.

I have also requested several simulator ProTee versions from the original designers. A filter length option is hopefully in the works.

Some of the ones that I've asked designers for recently and they've obliged are listed below. Listing them all for you just because the length on all of them should be good...although they're mostly not real courses. I've typically only wanted to play real-world courses, but some original ones have been created for TGC that lend very well to simulator play and are very realistic/believable. My criteria for good courses to play are that they look good, are believable/realistic, have a suitable length and have generous landing areas off the tee and NOT crazy slopes on greens. Most of the ones below fit that description...for the most part anyway. I've requested ProTee versions of a recent Pebble Beach release, Firestone and TPC Boston...but they're not out yet. Also, all of these are just on HB servers right now as far as I know...so we'll have to wait for the next sync.

                              - South Flower Golf & CC (ProTee)
                              - Lil Fry 81 Protee
                              - Scarpacci Acres (ProTee)
                              - Statton Hills CC (Protee)
                              - Tiber Trails CC (Alt. Tees)
                              - Turnberry Kintyre - ProTee
