What difference does the drive difficulty setting make?

I was looking through the settings. Drive difficulty..... what impact does normal, hard, hardest have on the game. Does normal make my shots go straighter than they really do?
If somebody has any insight, I would appreciate it.
I will be trying out the driver on each setting this weekend. I tried with about 25 drives on normal and hard and couldn't see a difference.

That setting will not do anything in the simulator. Its a left over from the Steam edition.
