  • 4-ball match

Has anyone played a local 4-ball match on TGC? We played on Sunday and we couldn't seem to influence the pairings. Also, the scores were not registering correctly. I watched my opposition miss a 30 footer for a bogey, then it gave him a par! We had lots of funny looking shots - one shot went forward then curved so much it looked like it was a boomerang it actually came back towards us - it was a reasonable strike too! We also had shots not registering but we are only just starting to use the system so perhaps we have set up aspects of the hardware incorrectly - I am only suspicious as on the whole shots seem reasonably accurate although the ball was definitely flying further than those seen using our Skytrak and (although the guys won't admit it) they were going further than they do in real life! A final issue was putts were not registering consistently, then when we looked over the sensor, it would register a shot that barely moved.
Interested to hear if anyone has had similar experiences as I have not read anything about these issues on the forum before.

I am assuming your dealing with a Protee.

Never tried 4 ball but they used to have matches all the time and I never heard any problems with scoring. I always assumed that the first two players were team one and the second two were team two but as I said I never have tried.

As far as the scoring can't answer that with any certainty either.

As far as shots the go way up in the air and actually do a loop according to the shot analysis. My unit will only do that with my 6 iron for some reason. I have had it happen to others playing on my sim using a wedge also. but if memory serves me correctly the this has been addressed in previous threads. I can't find anything anymore. Seems a lot of information has been deleted. So I can't link to the thread.

Putts are not always going to launch correctly especially if the room is noisy. We play music while we golf and once in a while someone will turn it up a bit. that don't work at all. every shadow it see's it launches a shot. There is a microphone near the ball impact area. And if you have it set to ignore the microphone the same result happens, every shadow sets off a shot. But you can adjust the microphone/sound level. So play around see if you can find a setting that will be suitable.

We have seen the loops once or twice. We have made a couple of updates to the camera routines. Please try version 3.05k.

When these shots still happen, send a screenshot of the analysis screen to the helpdesk.

Putting from the sensor mat is not ideal. Your head should not block the overhead light. We recommend a putting sensor for that. Here you place the ball approx 10" in front of the sensors. This way there is no light blocking issue. Also the putting sensors do not use a microphone. The ball just needs to travel past the 2 rows of sensors.

For the scoring issue, did you have gimmies switched on?

Thanks, I will try the link. Just to confirm, the issues with putting were when using the putting sensor. When putts failed to register we looked directly over the putting sensor and that seemed to record a delayed short putt.
We had gimmes set to 3 yards.on the second hole at Augusta - par 5 - it recorded 2 pars and two bogies. One guy had played a lot more than that and the other missed his bogey putt (so a gimme would have been for a double) but it recorded him as making a par 5.

My guess is someone hit the wrong ball. It is easy to get mixed up. specially when everyone is on the green. Or happens to us most of the time on the second shot. But now you can type the actual name in for guests so hopefully this winter will be less of that happening.

I have seen the scoring get a little wacky with 'gimmies' turned on during match play. I just could never replicate the issue and we barely play that way, we just wanted to see what it was like.

We used to get those loopy shots, however that was normally when the camera would misread and say it launched the ball at 59* or something like that, the ones that kind of boomerang is normally the HCAM picking up the club instead of the ball. Just check your camera settings. The new interface will probably help also.

No sim is perfect, but ProTee when the cameras work is awesome! And the support is A++++!
