  • December/January Update

Addressed to ProTee... I just wanted to ask if you can disclose whether any simulator-specific enhancements are being worked on as part of the December update that HB is working toward (that will presumably mean a simulator edition update in January). The last update in September didn't (as far as I know) have any simulator edition enhancements, so i'm hoping there will be some in the next update. Can you let us know what is being targeted for that one?

At a minimum I hope the new setting for clear skies and mid-day sun across all courses will be implemented. There are a number of other enhancements that I know people are anxious for (some more camera position options, ability to start on any hole, driving range statistics/multiple ball trails, etc.) so hopefully one or two of those are in the works as well...fingers crossed.

All updates until the current release (2.8) contained Simulator updates.
As you know we maintain a list of requests and bug reports. Some requests will make it into a new release and some will not.

We communicate what has been added and what has been fixed with every new release.

    Fingers crossed !

I would like to see HB put some effort into optimizing the game to make the graphics smoother. When you use the chase camera, the image stutters somewhat while the ball is landing. Now it is not a computer issue or having the graphics set too high. If it was, it would be smooth when you turn the detail level down and tree detail down. This happens even at 60 FPS. It happens on Xbox one plus the computer. Every video on YouTube shows this stuttering. Maybe they need to add a little motion blur to the trees. They should take a look at how some of the racing sim games handle fast motion detail. SLI and Crossfire support should go with graphics improvements. RDH has some great suggestions. I would also like to practice on certain holes. If you watch the ball, it is not that noticeable.

From a posting on the HB site, HB and ProTee were having a meeting today...so hopefully it was to finalize some exciting stuff for the December update. (My fingers are still crossed and they're getting sore)

Lots of exciting new stuff, which requires lots of development work. We will probably have to split up the update over December and January.

That's all I needed to hear - just confirmation that some exciting things should be coming. Thanks ProTee!

I'll uncross my fingers until December...whew.

Thanks for the effort ProTee. TGC is way better than E6 and makes red chain look like minecraft. I have turned my graphics down to High, detail 3, trees detail and distance at 1/3 of max. I get a solid 60FPS pretty much 95% of the time. I suggest that the players set the graphics to whatever it takes to get 55-60FPS. This is what it takes to have the background pan smoothly. At those settings the game still looks great. I would rather have smooth panning than higher detail with choppiness. I am running i7 2600k @3.4GHz 16 gigs of ram @2133MHz, and GTX970. I really hope that they optimize this for fast PC's. A little bit of motion blur on the trees would go a long way. Enabling SLI/Crossfire would fix the problem as well. I have another GTX 970 in my other computer just waiting for the day that SLI works with TGC. BTW the tournaments are really fun. Thanks, now if I only can score low when it counts.

The new update will be fantastic. There are cool new multiplayer features that would describe it best. Everyone will be very happy!

The multiplayer updates are part of the general update for TGC though...i'm hoping there are some big simulator-specific updates beyond that.

That is one of the main reasons I chose to go with TGC. I have had TGC since Aug and the lack of practice features were a concern to me. But seeing updates every 4-6 months helped with the decision. TGC is not perfect but considering that it is a console port, it's fantastic. The latest updates with autorewind have been great. The community has built some cool driving ranges. Practice features shouldn't be a concern to anyone on the fence with TGC anymore. I will be updating on day one.

The one other small feature that I hope will be in the update will be the global setting for clear skies and direct overhead sun, so that all courses are nice and bright on projector screens. There are a few really good ones (like TPC Boston) that are hard to play due to dark lighting.

Ideally it would be a configurable option, as you'll no longer get the sun lens flare effect if the sun is always directly overhead...and that effect is pretty cool. It would be great if you had the option to sometimes have the sun lower to enjoy those effects.

Hey rdh, i am with you. I think courses set to mid day sun look and play best on projection screen. I made a request to protee 6 months ago to let us change the time of day - hopefully this feature gets in sometime. I really dont like the dark shadows on and around the greens espcially as it makes it very hard to see the undulations. Even if they dont want to give us the 3 dials that control all the lighting settings maybe just a setting to either play as designer intended for those that dont care or a setting to set it to mid day sun.

Besides the Multiplayer Game Lobby, this light control feature will also be added. Now we're done leaking. Now go get your tour rounds in!

I told you guys that you will love the features in the Dec update. TGC is only getting better and better. Most of the credit goes to the contributors from this forum and all the awesome suggestions.
