  • Finally got The Golf Club and have a few questions

    Hello all,

    Finally made the leap! I have just a few questions but first I will give the computer specs. i5 processor with 8G RAM. Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 card with 2.00G of RAM.
    For best quality picture, what is the best setting to have for detail depth 1-5, Tree count?, and the depth tree count?. I want to maximize all these out, but don't want to kill gameplay.
    Secondly, I will be projecting the image on a 10 x 10 screen so most likely a 4:3 ratio. Is it possible to run the game at 1920 x 1080p and have it fill the screen, but just chop off some of the edges? I know I can run The Golf Club at 1400 x 1050, but I think I saw a thread showing that it only cuts out a little of the peripherals. Thanks in advance for all help and input. Truly appreciated and can't wait to play some good courses this weekend!!!!

    Just 2 quick follow ups.......What is the best Driver setting: Normal, Hard, Hardest? I want the one that would show the shot exactly as is. No boost and not making it shorter. Finally, if you do the 1080p setting, do you just change the aspect ratio on the projector. I see some shots earlier that show essentially the same picture, but the 4:3 is just a little cropped, which is no big deal.
    Thanks again!!!!!

      The driver setting doesn't do anything for the protee. It was for the steam pc game only. They should really remove the carry over stuff to avoid confusion.

      Download a free program called FRAPS. This will measure your frames per second FPS. Most people are happy with 30-45 FPS. I prefer perfectly smooth panning to high detail. I like TGC at 55-60 FPS.

    Start the game in 1920x1080 - HIGH detail (or any other resolution in 4:3 if needed)

    In the game display settings set the following:

    VSYNC -> ON
    DEPTH OF FIELD -> OFF
    ANTI-ALIASING -> ON
    OBJECT DETAIL -> 1
    HQ TREE COUNT -> 1000
    HQ TREE DISTANCE -> 614

    The tee box will always be in view no matter what aspect ratio you select. A wide screen aspect ratio will show more detail on the left and right side, like the bag of clubs.

    Have fun!

      Thank you for all the feedback!!!!

      So the object detail should be set at the lowest? I just had it set up on my computer screen and was trying to fiddle with these numbers from there.

      Thanks

        As keither suggested your best bet is to download FRAPS and then play with the settings and see the impact on frame rate and find the right balance. You may decide you care more about tree count and distance and less about object detail. Or you may prefer to go a bit higher on all three and allow the frame rate to drop to 30-40 fps. A lot of it is personal preference and determining what you care about most considering what your computer can handle.

      Will definitely use the FRAPS program. I will start with ProTee's suggested settings above and go from there. Does anybody know if I run the program in 1920x1080, and project it on a 10 foot by 10 foot screen, if it will fill the whole screen. I saw ProTee show the same hole with 16:9 vs 4:3 and the only difference was really just the sides being cropped. I have no problem with that, I just want to know if those two pictures were the same resolution. I'm coming from FSX and this has so many more options right now, that I am overwhelmed!
      I apologize in advance if my questions are redundant.

        Well there is no format which will fill 10x10 but 4:3 will be the closest.

      Why can nobody answer what object detail is. Anyone?

        Protee showed some screenshots with the different object detail in the golf club skytrak one. The only difference I could see by looking very closely is the water and the leaves but you have to look very closely !

        Water, leaves, shadows....... are a little blocky.... like minecraft. Object detail 2 or 3 is not that bad and gives me a perfect 55-60 FPS at all times. It bothers me when the game is panning ( when the ball lands mostly) if it is not smooth. SLI support please! 2 GTX 970 in SLI = a Titan X ($1300 Cnd) in most games. Pretty much every video on Youtube is choppy when panning including mine. I have since turned the settings down a bit.

      Is there anyway to skip or hole or essentially preview all holes from a course without actually hitting the ball? I don't see the feature, but sometimes would like to see the course layout before I decide to play a round.
      Thanks

          Thanks for the response. No big deal especially when playing courses that are familiar, but if it is one I have never heard of, it would be a nice feature to be able to preview the holes before deciding to play.

              Great news. Will that also include Jump to Hole? Not a huge deal but, for example, then we don't need to skip 10 holes in a row and can get right to Amen Corner.

                No it will not be a jump hole. The skip hole will add the max score to your score card, like a concede hole.

              I think that's the first specific feature I've heard mentioned for the January update (other than the multiplayer stuff that is part of the broader update). Thanks for sharing that. It's a small one but a very important one too that we'll all be looking forward to...cue up the practice session on #12 at magnolia!

                Yeah skip hole, jump to hole, drop a ball anywhere and practice from anywhere, and aiming using the minimap are all huge "tiny" updates I think.

                But that's a start.

                  rdh We will not (read: never) list upfront what is going to be added or fixed. We communicate this when the updates are fully tested and released. We do not want to make promises we can not keep or post coming soon messages in order to make a quick sale.

                  The post above is an exception (sure we will leak once in a while)...
