  • Course with perfect lighting

Just played Araluen CC front nine which is such a enjoyable course to play on a simulator. This version is long at 3600 yards and some may not like the distance. RDH has already asked him for a shorter version. I enjoyed playing this very much as its long but generous landing areas and very open "Augusta Like" with great visuals because of the elevation changes going on.

I wanted to post about how bright and clear this course looks on a projection screenand that I asked the designer for his lighting settings which I have included in the image below.

ProTee United - I know you said that you would give us some way of adjusting lighting in upcoming releases. If we cannot have the ability to adjust all three settings our own and you go the route of having a standard setting for all courses then this would be my vote for perfect course lighting.

Here is the thread over at HB studios if anyone is interested.

It will be a standard setting, so its the same for everyone. We will follow your recommendation.

I'm not sure these are the best settings. I love the Araluen course and agree it's nice and bright, but the sun is not directly overhead. This means with the settings above we will have a lot of issues with shadows on greens. On Araluen I don't think you really notice this because the greens are generally in open spaces...and the trees are sparse in general (and not as big as the rustic ones). I've attached a screenshot showing the trees casting long shadows across the fairway on Araluen.

I'd love the settings of Araluen, but with the sun directly overhead to minimize shadows.

I'm just checking out Torrey Pines - South Gold on the PC version and the sun is pretty much directly overhead...the pins barely cast a shadow at all. I'm going to post on the HB forum to ask the designer what settings he used.

I've posted on the forum asking for the settings...hopefully the designer will share them. For reference I've attached a screenshot to show what i'm talking about...the pin casts almost no shadow and all the tree branch/leaf shadows are pretty much directly beneath them.

I'll post if I hear back from the designer. Really though, I would expect HB should (since they're coding this anyway) know what the settings are for perfect overhead sunlight.

Here's the response I got back from the designer:

"Yeah I tried to limit the shadows for at least the first version so everyone could see it easier. Glad it worked. This is what I used, hopefully a description is good enough, sorry for the lack of screenshots.

Time: 1 click past Noon I guess, just past half full
Orientation: 2 clicks under half full
                Inclination: 2 clicks under full"

Thinking about this a bit more...wouldn't it be best to have a new place in settings to toggle on/off global weather/lighting and then to have a place there to specify the settings for this stuff (that could default to what's discussed above)? I mean, I prefer direct overhead lighting with minimal shadows, but that doesn't mean everyone does...could it be something that each of us can set however we want?
