  • TGC thinking of selling

I haven't heard any update to the upcoming changes, and it's a little difficult to play along with my junior golfers without multiple tees or jumping to any hole, drop the ball anywhere...just a few things we could use.
I've been patiently waiting but I'm considering selling off tgc and looking at other software that is more junior friendly.
Maybe look into upgrading to fsx? We have PG and it's great but don't want to rent software if they go that direction..

If having multiple tees outweighs what you like about TGC I suggest another software. It isn't on the near future horizon.

I hate reading stuff like that. I hope the simulator space is important enough to HB/ProTee that they make this (multiple tees) a priority before next indoor season. My concern is that it's a big fundamental change for them...so even if they decide tomorrow they're going to do it, I have no idea how long it might take. Really I expect it may only happen as part of "TGC 2" if/when a project is launched for that. I'm on board with TGC for now but I won't wait a couple years for this. Right now I have some stuff set up to boost my kids' shots (my own interface for my golftek device) so they can play longer courses, but for our almost-12-year-old that's hitting the point where it's a bad solution. He needs to start to learn how far he really hits his clubs...280 yard drives and 160 yard 7-irons are fun and all, but he's not learning how to actually play and plan his shots.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed that it probably isn't a good match for our needs with the kids. Personally I really enjoy playing magnolia and "ks man corner", but my junior golfers can't really get the same out of it. That's just one example though. Usually they can warm up on the fr1 range/club fitting software, and we can jump over to PG and do some par 3 challenges, forward tees more suitable for their length, play certain holes, etc. So we get a lot more out of our practice sessions with that and even the older redchain protee software as well.

Another thing with junior golfers is setting everything up, the protee interface, going back between checking tgc or protee, then using gsx interface, etc. So it takes a few more steps for them to figure out. If it was just me, I would rock on with tgc and wait around to see what changes are being implemented, but it's hard considering pg is already integrating all these features before launch, and fr1, and hopefull fsx with it's issues is still pretty much plug and play.
Boosting their shots would just confuse their game when they know their carry numbers. Since using the foresight range, outside training, competing, trackman etc. Not just my kids, but this generation is all about knowing data..just another game with math. They can tell everything about trackman numbers, path to clubface, etc. It's crazy how they're just wired differently, but cool to watch.

So I'm just waiting to see what kind of improvements are implemented in this next update before I make a decision. It is April so I'd imagine they really won't be playing much sim golf, other than just range practice so maybe a couple updates before winter could change things..

I can't imagine multiple tees is that important to people. People talk about it like they won't use their sim unless they have multiple tees. I find it strange. I play 150 rounds a year IRL and maybe 6-10 of them are multiple tee with my wife and 12 year old. Less in my sim. If I play with lesser males or older males, I'm happy to play the tee with them. Those type of golfers don't come to my sim very often.

If you like TGC, why not use it and when you need multiple tee use Protee or PG. Maybe it'll come, maybe not. Make your decisions on the today. Today, there are no multiple tees and it's not in the next update.

Damn 150 rounds a year in real life? That awesome. There are probably some pro golfers that don't even play that many haha. Do you work in the golf field?

Well you have to look at it like a junior golfer...it's not so much about multiple tees so I can play along, but how would you like to play par 3's that you only could reach with a 3 wood or driver or at all? They want to play to par at their ability level just like ajga competitions or pga junior league with set distances. That's why simulation golf on tgc is not much fun for the junior golfer, they would rather just hit balls on the sim range. Now when we can drop the ball anywhere on the course in different software and work on tuck pins, etc. they start to want to play more.

TGC is great for personal use for the most part, and can wait for the changes.. but it has a long way to go to capture all levels of golf or even be considered in a commercial enviroment. I understand it wasn't designed for simulator use in the beginning so I'm not trying to say it can't become that, I'm just trying to see if there are better options for junior golfers in the present. If these golf software companies prices weren't so astronomically high for the average golfer, I'd have all of them!

My 2 cents on this is that Junior golfers who are serious about golf will get good really fast. My 13 yo played Junior PGA last year and his team went to regionals. He got serious about his game and when I got the sim setup, he played mostly Protee without me so that he could play junior tees. That was in October. Yesterday, on a real course, playing from the whites he beat me 90-92. He drives the ball 200-230. At 5 feet and 100 lbs, he is happy to join any group and play without me. When people see them they all wish that they started that young.

I have to agree with mthunt. Play protee with them from junior tees and practice your short game. When they are ready, they will want to play the big courses with you. They will not worry about the fact it takes them an extra stroke to reach a green in regulation. The hardest part of TGC is that to reach a Fairway often needs a 150 yard carry and my 10 yo cannot do that. He never complains but just keeps playing and is happy to play on the big course with me and his older siblings.

My 16 yo daughter refuses to play from the Ladies tees anymore. She plays whites with me and the "boys". She shoots in the 90s and this is her first season in competitive golf.

In short, Challenge them and they will rise to the challenge. Play protee or another short course, but do not limit their options. I figure that I am investing in college scholarships early.

... Challenge them and they will rise to the challenge ...; That is straight out excellent, and one of the spirits of golf!

What I meant was use Protee play or perfect golf. Protee is the old sim software. I'm pretty sure it has multiple tees and is pretty cheep. That way you can play with the junior when you do and use TGC the rest of the time. I play with my son who is only 12 and terrible and we play kids courses. It's his time and I'm happy to play short tees with him. I'm not expecting him to hit 3 woods into par 3s. That is my preference anyway.
