Played TGC in 4K with gtx 980ti

I hooked up my desktop to a new 4K 55" tv in the main room to see how it looked. Graphics are pretty good, but I'd have to do a side by side with a 1080p monitor to see any significant difference, but still looked good. The tv itself is new so the brightness and size is a big jump from my 27" monitor. Anyone else do a comparison?
I get 60 fps in 1080p, and running fraps, it capped at 30 fps for 4K. I'm wondering if the video card could push higher fps in 4K, or does it just match the tv refresh rate? 30 fps at 4K wasn't quite as smooth though, however the water detail on tpc 17 was amazing. I can't imagine getting an impact screen to match the quality of a 4K screen, even if there ever becomes a 4K short throw projector. I think 1080p is pretty darn good at the moment...

Foresight recommends the 980 ti for 4K.

I don't think foresight and 4K should even be mentioned together. They need to fix the current bugs and laggy fps with 1080p..
I like their range and club fitting software though.

I actually read up on your question recently... I was caught up with getting really high FPS on 1080p (like 100+), but thought about the capability of my monitor. Saw the BenQ monitor I was using was 60hz (meaning it can only display 60 frames per second). My 46" LED is 120hz. Geforce FPS counter and FRAPS will count the video card's FPS, but that is strictly what the video card is generating (not what the tv is displaying). So if your FPS counter is registering 100 FPS from the video card, but your monitor / tv is maxed out at 60hz, the actual FPS you're seeing is 60 FPS.

So fortysixandtwo (nice name - i should have made mine Parabola), with a 980ti (roughly $675), you are only getting 60 FPS on 1080p? I'm a little confused because I've seen folks talking about how a 970 is good enough for 1080p with 40-60 FPS on high resolution settings. They must have decreased some of the in-game graphics settings for trees, max view distance, etc. Two 970 cards (using SLI) is supposed to compete with a single 980ti for most games in regards to FPS. I'm planning to upgrade from 700 series GTX, so I would really like to know if I can achieve 100+ FPS on 1080p with high resolution. I don't need to play on 4k or absolute max settings. My goal is to have a smooth display (no lags with ball in the air) with clear detail. Just don't know if I should get a 970 ($350), 980 ($525) or 980ti ($675).

Do you know if the 55" tv is a 60, 120 or 240 Hz? If your tv is 60hz then maybe I'm wrong and you are capped out 60 FPS.

Is it recommended to stick with the same video card when you do an SLI? I have a GTX 780 (2 year old computer) and was wondering if I should go with another GTX 780 ($200ish) or GTX 980 ($525ish). Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but there is probably info on google about it. In case you haven't seen other posts, TGC does not support SLI.

I read somewhere to just match the fps with your monitor refresh settings. So I'm using a 32" 1080p tv @ 60 hz, fps capped at 60 for tgc

The 4K tv has two settings under hdmi 1 input. HDMI 1.4 and 2.0, I just picked 1.4 to try it out and the fps was a steady 30. Maybe 4K tv's are 30hz?

My daughter plays Ark on steam and at max settings for 1080p, it makes the 980ti work hard, I think it would struggle at 4K..

You should try disabling v-sync in the game settings. I believe it tries to cap at it at 60fps but it your not getting 60 (which I imagine at 4k you won't) it might try and cap it at 30. Disablig might get you 40's which is decent.

I read that HDMI 1.4 is capped at 60 hz display. Not sure about 2.0. But Display Port is now the big deal... they can go up to 120+ hz. Just played perfect golf on my 60hz monitor... I used the Steam in-game FPS counter and was getting 120-130 FPS on the driving range. I'll grab a Display Port cable tomorrow and see if I can see a difference on the samsung LED tv. TGC has to wait for now.. reinstalled OS so I now have new machine IDs.

Just read that only the HDMI 2.0 output can display 4k at 60 fps... I'm wondering now that since you were using 1.4, it capped out at 30 FPS. Give it a try and report back! Not seeing anything out there that can handle 4k over 60 fps

It's fixed. I just installed mine last week and it runs perfectly on 1080p in the maximum graphics setting. I'm using a new i7 Alienware x51 computer with the 970.
