Skytrak/TGC and Protee 1.42 = 0 side spin on all chips?

I have been having issues with chips not getting detected about 25% of the time. Hitting the chip over and over until it finally gets picked up by Sktrak.

I noticed on a video that someone else posted of this weeks tournament, they had a newer version of the TGC interface app (1.42). I re-ran the Protee TGC installer and updated to this version.

I have now played 3 rounds (2 for this weeks St Jude Classic, and another round just now), and 100% of my chips and putts are now getting detected. 54 holes without a single shot being missed is great.

However, I have noticed that now every chip shows 0 side-spin. Sand, fringe, fairway, all are the same. I am not able to get anything within about 20 yards to display any side-spin. I have had a couple chip ins and hit some flagsticks due to this. I guess I would rather have it like this, than having to re-hit my chips to get them to read...but its just a little too accurate now.

Is this a change that was part of the Protee 1.42 update?

    My config settings:

    [Skytrak]
    Horizontal Angle Correction=ON
    Putting Correction=ON
    Driver Boost=0
    Wood Boost=0
    Iron Boost=0
    Wedge Boost=0
    Putter Boost=0
    Short Chip Correction=ON

Until they release the next update, you might want to go with the short chip correction OFF. It will give you more accurate spin and side spin numbers but just be aware it will have a tough time or not read chips that you are only carrying like 10ftish or so and under. Not a big issue but can get you stuck from time to time. With the chip correction ON in this update I dont believe the side spin was fixed for that yet, so may still read 0 everyt time on that from 20 yards and in, but it will at least be guaranteed to register each shot. I say give it a shot with chip correction OFF and see how you like it, some seem very please with it, Im ok with it, but always find myself stuck on that tiny chip that wont read eventually.

Go with OFF and if you can get a chip to read then just select the putter as your club and try chipping again. In pretty sure that's all the ON does for you. It puts the skytrak in putting mode from 20 yards and in. As I said you can do that manually by selecting the putter as your club.

Only thing not accurate with that is if you switch to putter manually in OFF mode it will put you in putting mode but it will also think you are on the green and will read the chip with 0 backspin and 0 side spin, so I wouldn't recommend that or your chip will go flying across the green. Not sure why it does that when you switch to putting mode manually from normal mode as opposed to working normally when the game automatically puts you in putting mode, but sadly that's just what it does.

But yea, I agree, definitely give the OFF mode a go

Any updates on this issue? Turning this to OFF leads to more non-reads of chips. Turning ON leads to lots of easy chip-ins and shots that hit the flagstick. My 9 year old is starting to think that golf is easy since he can hole out or hit the flag stick on chips so often. This must stop LOL.

Haha yea I'm hoping they come out with an update soon as well, ive been testing one of their builds from a while back that have similar results with back spin numbers as before but in this one the OFF position does read side spin and the ON position seem pretty accurate other than a few errant readings.

Still trying to test the ON position chipping and find a way to duplicate the few times I'll get very low readings on some well struck chips, doesn't happen much but is annoying when it does (as I've seen others here complain about before as well) but can't seem to pin point the exact cause yet. It only happens randomly on chips less than 20 for me though, over 20 numbers are still great.

I've still been using the OFF mode when my dad is over since he likes that all the chips read constantly (even though the backspin numbers are in the 1100 to 1900 area from under 20 yards) and play and rest the ON mode to test (other then tournament times I like the OFF).

I know the protee guys are working hard on things, they seemed excited and passionate about trying to get it as right as they could. Still think the limitations are on SkyTrak_Seth side a bit until they perfect the short chip readings while in normal mode. In the mean time I really like the idea they threw out with just turning putting mode on from 10 yards and in instead of 20, if they did that with the side spin included in the putting mode, that would be great in my book and would give most of the best parts of this ON and OFF debate until skytrak comes out with an update on their side.

              In protee I trust

We are actually working on a "smart" putting mode that will also deliver good spin with chips. The 1k back spin thing is set on the TGC side, like a placeholder, but we will be giving them better data to work with. They are testing it now.

Fantastic news right there! That would be huge into taking the skytrak to another level in my book on TGC and all the other sim softwares im sure. One of the biggest things right now that separates it for me from the gc2 is the accuracy with the pitch and chips (which I will say has been getting better and better lately from where we all first started with it). And ive seen enough numbers with it next to the gc2 and trackman to have full confidence in what im seeing on my full shots with my skytrak, so thats not a concern to me at all really anymore, but if this smart putting mode works nicely, that is very exciting to me.

Totally agree w Ironstrokes this is the next major thing SkyTrak must focus on fixing to be on par w GC2. I hope this "smart" putting mode will be implemented in all sim options (PG, E6 and WGT) and not just TGC.

Really frustrating as the other day, one of many many times, hit my approach shot on a par 4 just a bit right of pin attempting to roll it downhill onto green. It did not and sat just off fringe 6 yards from pin. Of course ST cannot read soft chips or flops, so had to chip downhill past hole and ended up just off fringe on the other side 8 yards from pin. Then again ST cannot read soft chips or flops so had to chip past hole by 5 yards. So all in all, what should have been a straightforward par (if ST can read soft chips/flops or allow me to putt off fringe on WGT) turned into a double bogey - guess my screen name was correctly chosen after all =)

I don't care about the score itself as much as the frustration and back pains from having to soft chip over and over again where nicely struck soft touch chips never register - and of course the chips that are too strong or worst yet skulled registers perfectly.

Here's the problem explained - There are 2 modes for SkyTrak - putting mode and normal mode. It's pretty obvious what each is for, except that we found that putting mode works better for capturing short chip shots. However (and here's the problem), putting mode doesn't deliver all the data parameters hence why you are getting the 1k back spin placeholder and other weird data/performance issues in simulation. I think you'll be really happy with the solution.

So today I tried a round on TGC / Skytrak with chip correction off. The number of misreads with short chips around the green went up dramatically. But I must say I like the readings much better when they do pick up and I see accurate sidespin numbers. The 0 sidespin thing does make me feel better about my score however! Lol. Still love my ST and TGC!!!

SkyTrak_Seth or ProTee United any idea when we may see a fix for this?

                  Thank you!
