  • New to TGC - Couple of questions

    HI Everyone,

New to TGC, so far I love it. Had a couple of quick questions -

    1) Saw the course list above, did some scouring to see other courses. Do you have any easy favorites. Something I can do to get used to it... I'm not great - 16 - 18 HCP at the moment, so some of the courses I've played so far were very humbling

    2) What putting setting do you play at? Gimme +1, +2 etc?

    3) Is there any way to change the tee location? Played the "mayan kids course" yesterday and most par 4's were 430 yards... That rates as handicap 1 on my pub course. Any recommendations on how to make the courses shorter?

    4) Driver setting (regular, hard, hardest) - what does this mean?

    5) Any other tips or things I should know?

    Thanks!

Hey rmyoung, if you go here (post # 20) you'll find a number of courses, the ones with the lower ratings and slopes play the easiest.

    1. Sawgrass and Pebble Beach are great and not too hard
    2. 6 foot gimmies are what the tournaments are
    3. You have only one tee option. If you want shorter you need a shorter course. Search for mthunt and you'll see an easy kids course.
    4. It's only for console play like punch. Not applicable. Won't do anything.
    5. Keep playing and you'll enjoy it as you get used to it. Also read up here. Lots of tips.

Little brook manor might be the easiest course on TGC. Super wide fairways and big greens with not a lot of slope. Not a bad course to start with.

You should also find a driving range that you like. My favorite ranges are Mthunt Protee Driving range, Range 2 Protee SFR, and all of the Protee Edge ranges are good. There are over 100 ranges to choose from or you can build your own.

When using the range, use Autorewind. TGC will remember the club and shot location and direction so it's just like dropping another ball. You can't place the ball anywhere yet, but that is coming in TGC2. I quite often hit a 9 iron straight down Mthunts range and then turn on AR. I am then surrounded with interesting greens to practice my short game.

When practicing for a tour event, use AR when you need help with club selection on Par 3's. Sometimes when I am sitting at a troublesome distance ( 60-80 yards for me ) I will hit AR and take 10-20 shots for practice. Please note that rewinds or autorewinds are not allowed during tournament play unless there is a misread by the sim. Also, make sure that you turn on shot recording as it is required for tournament play. Plus shot recording will give you the data needed to analyze your shots and gauge improvement.

Welcome to TGC and the forum. I have had TGC since August 2015.... best money spent ever!

        Hi Keither,

Quick question on the range. I tried MTHUNT range. I used auto rewind which took me right back to the range. How did you get the various greens? is that on a different range? Also, is there way to get the shot tracer to stay on so I can see my ball flight?

        Thanks!

No problem..... I hit the first shot about 150-160 down the middle, then I turn on autorewind, choose wedge and move left and right to aim at about 8 different greens. While in TGC go to settings, display, show ball trail. to show the ball trail for a longer period of time.... turn on follow cam and increase follow cam delay up to 5 seconds..... that's usually enough to see how the shot went.

Got it. But there isn't any way to keep the ball trail up right? So like in skytraks practice range session or at fitting sessions at any golf store, you can see continuous flight etc. The ball trail will inevitably leave after a while.

No way to keep the ball tracer on. The range is designed to have greens at every 10 yards from 20-250 by aiming left or right at the greens.
