Putting with TGC/ Skytrak help

So I've gotten use to putting on a simulator but I still get some squirrelly putts from time to time. I'm using a Skytrak with TGC.
Every once in a while I'll have a putt start left or right out of know where, I'm thinking as a result of putting on my mat? Does anyone use a strip of thinner, flatter turf to putt off of to make sure the ball doesn't bounce around the first foot or so?
Not really sure how all this stuff works, just hoping for advice.

Try putting on a board or a yardstick .. see if that helps.. make sure u are hitting the sweet spot ... that helps too...
