If you look at my backspin numbers from my recorded shots they are sooooo low for some reason... I can't get anything to stay on the green even when I hit an iron absolutely pure. I do use almost golf balls from the Pw through the LW because of balls flying everywhere but even everything below PW the backspin numbers are extremely low. Can anyone give me a tip or look at my numbers in the recorded shots and let me know if they look pretty legit or if they think something may be reading incorrectly?

Hmm could be... I did hit a few irons in the sky track app itself last night, I'm going to compare a few of the spin numbers to TGC numbers and see if there is any major difference.. Just seems super low in TGC to the point where I can NEVER stick on a green. For instance I went and just randomly checked out someone's numbers in the tourney part of the website here and their 7 irons were consistently around 5000 and mine are ALWAYS at like 2500-2800...Originally posted by wbond View PostMat effect? Some people believe it others don't. One place did a "trial" that showed reduced spin on mat vs grass. I think 1-2 k reduction if I remember correctly.

Well it seems I just suck because I hit 12 7 irons last night and the backspin average was around 3352. In TGC I just looked through like 4 rounds and saw numbers similar...I guess I just had a tough round today lol...honestly felt like every time I hit the green on an approach the ball would just keep rolling off while every ghost ball was hitting and sticking like it had a magnet attached.. I'm going to try a couple higher spin balls as well and see what the difference is numbers wise tomorrow .Originally posted by mthunt View PostWhat spin so you get with regular balls?

That's petty low. What kind of ball? What is the ball speed? I average over 6 or 7k I think with a 7 iron and my ball speed I think is 120. Not sure. I use prov1. You can decrease green speed and firmness. My Courses:

I wish I could come close to those numbers. Maybe my ball wouldn't roll 25 feet every time after I hit the green.Originally posted by wbond View PostI find that in TGC anything less than 5-6k just doesn't hold.Last edited by Jwheels9876; 12-09-2016, 06:33 PM.

Hey Jwheels9876 .. I have not taken a look at your data. Not sure how long you have been at it with a launch monitor but.... When I started at this my spin was low and I looked to the mat, the ball, the wedge, the software.. Turns out I was a long way from center strike and a correct angle of attack. My driver spin was higher than my wedge spin. LOL. Spray you face with foot powder and hit a few wedges 50 yards or so... Your spin should be a bare min of 100 rpms per yard of carry and build from there. I have hit 1000's of shots outside on SkyTrak. I went and dug up an old spreadsheet.. I average 192/RPM per yard of carry between 25-45 yards with a range of 165-219 rpm per yard of carry. So at 25= 4800 rpm, 35= 6720 rpm 45= 8640 rpm.. This is not one session... This is 1000's of shots.. yes... I'm a geek... I am new to TGC (sim) and my problem was spinning the ball too much when I got going. Gaining skill controlling lauch angle, side angle & back spin are great skills.. My wedges are good. My driver spin is good..from 3000/4000/5000 to 1800-2200. STrak has been an awesome tool for me but I have put in TIME with a goal at the end!!!Originally posted by Jwheels9876 View Post

If you have any questions I would be happy to reply or share some old data. Good luck to you...

Thanks for the detailed response. I'm by no means a great golfer but I know something is up when I'm only getting around 3300 spin on every 7 iron I hit. I've been playing long enough to know when I do hit a good shot and I feel like I've been hitting the ball pretty well since getting used to swinging indoors. I'm going to go step be step cleaning my clubs first, then using a higher spin ball like a ProV1 then moving my skytrak to different heights to see if anything changes. I'll try to post my data from my last 12 swings with the 7 iron on the skytrak app and maybe you could take a look. I'm in no way an expert at anything numbers wise as I just got into this whole thing recently.

I feel ya... It can be frustrating. Did you pull the plastic protective film off your window lens? Just a wild thought! Do you have a buddy that can hit some shots on the ST... & look at the data.. I would start there..
I would start with the wedges personally before I got to 7 iron. Easier to get spin going, control HA and side spin doesnt hurt as much. Keep in mind not all 7 irons are created equal... Cavity backs are going to spin less that MB on pure strikes in my opinion. Strong lofted 7i are going to spin less as well.
I see you are playing the tour & looked a few pages of shots. Man it is fun.. There are some PW that have good spin on them so the question is why?. Spray your face and see where you are making contact on the a wood, wedge and iron vs the spin numbers. One of the issues I see is that there is so much side spin generated by the ball leaving to the left (-) with a path even more to the left that it might be tough to generate BackSpin....
LW 71 Fairway 56.3 0.8 39.2 -2.5 -345 7906
The shot above is a LW from the FW @ 71 yards.. You started it .8 to the right with -2.5 draw spin axis and you generated 7906 Backspin... This was a baby draw most likely. Decent #'s. So they are not all bad. My guess is that:
your ST is not set up level, not pointed in the correct direction...
or you are pulling the ball across the line with a path open to the face (Big Cut).. Try hitting some ball the start Right of centerline.. So a positive # in the HA with a negative # in the SS.. This only happen once in the data I saw.. Which is the LW if referred to above. This is going to look and feel weird back it will feel like you are swinging toward the STrak Too much.

Wyzyguy Here are a few shots I hit the other night. Granted, these are just practice swings where I was swinging easy on a few and harder on a couple, just mixing up swings to see what was what but the spin numbers are still very low I think? honestly I don't know how the numbers relate to each other.
And a few more doing the Challenge mode to a 150 yard green where I swung the club the same for 5 swings trying to hit the green... you can also see my 8 Iron numbers above the 7..All seem low...Last edited by Jwheels9876; 12-09-2016, 11:03 PM.

Will do. Thanks for everything... I hit about 25 balls with a ProV1 and my backspin was in the 8000-9000 range with the 7 iron.. of course my side spin also went way up and distance way down...ImOriginally posted by Wyzyguy View PostLook up ball flight laws on YouTube... I think it may have to do with path to face difference... I will post more later .. tied up
not good enough to play a ball like that. I'm currently using a Srixon soft feel...

Face to path is huge... get the ball started on a path on line or slightly to the right with a path a little more right than that... ball striking will probably improve ... spin with wedges and iron will go up.. spin with driver will probably go down... everything in moderation... I went from big cuts to big hooks... in the middle is where I work to stay !

Thanks again for all the help. I'm going to start working on hitting a draw until spring and see if I can pull it off.
I also noticed last night that because I am offset to my impact screen I'm having the tendency to be aiming toward the middle of it anyway when I swing. I think subconsciously I'm just aiming there figuring it's the middle because it feels weird hitting so far off center... Gonna get to work on that face to path angle

Looking at the data all of your balls that launched high spun really low - which would indicate your a sweeper - or possibly flipping at it
Tour average launch for 7 iron is 19 DEG - with 6700 spin.. Not to say you should be at tour launch but you should be closer to 20 than 30
The one ball you launched at 19 deg spun 4500, the one you hit under 25 deg spun 5k everything over that was super low - if you were not hitting a tour ball thats the rest of your secret sauce.
I believe the only way you could get launch that high and spin so low is to sweep the ball.
How do you hit your driver on the sim?

If you look at my most recent numbers from last nights tournament, my spin numbers look fine and I had some balls hit the green and spin back nicely. I got a matching side mat to place my sky track on so I know it's absolutely flush with my hitting mat. I can't use tour balls, I'm not good enough to... I use a Titlest Dt Soft and Srixon soft feel and occasionally a Srixon Q star...as far as the driver, ask me everyday and I'll probably have a different answer, lol... When I'm on I have a nice left to right fade that lands in the fairway and rolls...bad day I have a nice big slice... I wish I had the $ for a GC2 honestly as the sky track seems finicky lately having connection issues and not reading shots all the time.
