I was actually thinking of posting something similar since I'm starting to mull which direction to go from my Skytrak and have been talking to Matt from Uneekor about logistics. What do people find to be the biggest drawbacks, if there are any, outside of the limited ball selection which are well documented, with the QED?
As an aside, they told me to expect a price increase on the QED in the future, probably some time next year.
I went from an ES-16 to a GC2/HMT, but circumstances indicated I needed to switch to left handed play. I bought a set of left handed clubs and started in on rebuilding my swing, the problems arose when the wife and I tried to play a round together I used Bluetooth connection and had one that worked well enough the switch was no problem due to wires, I measured and marked out just where the GC2 had to be for right handed and left handed play so that was not a problem due to placement, but moving it for each one to play was a pain in the butt and slowed the game, so for that reason I went to Uneekor. I am very glad I did, I no longer have to worry about someone hitting a ball into my launch monitor, and there is no problem going from left handed to right handed play. I wish the swing cameras were locked in but they are not although the cameras I have though not perfect are very usable and they are working on getting quality camera in place. I would love to be able to use the same ball I play on the real course but can live with using the marked balls for now, I would also like to see the system dialed in more on club reads but I believe improvements are being made in that and also the ball reads. Service, I don't think you could ask for better I have not had a problem that was not taken care of even faster than I thought was necessary. For what it is worth, I recommend this system and am very glad I got one, and there are those on this form that would have told you I would not ever say anything good about any system, but as for me I have always said; I say what I think and I don't sugar coat it, or put it in a good light unless I believe it to be true.
A price increase would really suck. I was planning to buy in the next 1-2 years after I’ve paid off my initial investment into the sim world. This would definitely push me away and looking for used or a GC2.
Yeah I was planning on waiting towards the end of next year originally. Their rep said nothing is concrete yet, but it sounds like after the PGA show in January is a reasonable possibility. I'm leaning towards the QED right now, but a price increase would change the calculus so I have to decide if I'm willing to jump in earlier than planned or not.
I wonder if they know something we don’t. I don’t know much about economics but I thought prices would be high at the time of the release then level out through the life of the product and eventually become obsolete. They are doing the opposite!
Hey dudes, look at the GC2 Black Friday sale bundles... prices look to be what a renewed or used unit would be... I almost considered it, but out of my realm - I went with a used ProTee for now.
My guess is they are keeping the price extremely low right now considering the product to get more established in the US. Once they feel their brand is established they will increase cost. I just bought the system yesterday and asked about potential Black Friday sales, and they said no as it is rock bottom now and will likely increase next year.
This is the impression I had. I think their profit margins are extremely slim to non-existent (which is why it is such a good value relative to Foresight products) as they seek to gain a market foothold but that isn't sustainable in the long term. It will be interesting to see what price they settle on.
I think the only real downside to the system is the marked balls. They only offer bridgestone marked balls. People have a solution with sticky dots that you manually apply to a golfball. This enables you to use whatever ball you want, however it does take time.
I just purchased a used system, and will be receiving it on monday(so pumped).
I’ve been following/reading about the ball stuff. I don’t think applying the dots while I’m sitting around watching a football or hockey game is that big of a time crunch.
My main concern is support after purchase...not software upgrades or development—sounds like they are working hard in that realm. But, parts failures, de-installation, physical service to the unit. They’re so new, I’m wondering how that will go when somebody inevitably has a bad camera or similar malfunction. It’s a little more complicated than throwing a SkyTrak box into the mail.
Well, I'll jump in (as if I have not said enough).... I have to say that my unit is still going strong, The last couple of updates seem to have tweaked the system even more. At this point, here are my thoughts on the issues:
1)No miss-reads or no-reads
2)Ball Data is the best
3)Club Head data is solid (I think spot on) besides I still argue that the actual video of club through impact is way more useful than numbers.
4)QED works will all 3rd party software...I believe Creative 3d Golf is now working too.
5)I am still waiting on high quality swing analysis cameras. The 120FPS cameras are nice and work...but I would like better.
6)I would like see improved graphics on the QED courses. I like the ball physics but hope the graphics improve. (I still prefer TGC2019, E6, and JNPG)
7)Shot shaping, distances, ball physics, etc. are all spot on to my actual ball flight.
8)Marked balls. The dots from cmckelvmi are the best. I use my Pro V's and the dots are lasting months. I honestly don't see what the big deal is. I love seeing the video of the ball actually spinning and seeing the dots turn....leaves no doubt in one's mind what the spin on the ball is.....It don't get more accurate than that.....
I'm glad the system is working out for everyone.....I have not heard of any buyers remorse.....
I'm looking forward to the future and the enhancements that will come
I've got mine being delivered on Saturday and am really excited to be able to play with my left handed son. I'm not surprised about the potential price increase. It seems like you get a lot for the money. I went with the basic Ignite package. Have any current owner upgraded to Refine of Succeed? Was it worth the extra money?
I have had mine for a few weeks now and Ditto what Gene said. I love the unit and I played the Skytrak next to it several times and they were both very similar ball flight, speeds, and spins. The Skytrak missed a few shots where the Uneekor did not. I think the Skytrak performed better with the marked balls actually. Video playback is seamless when setup.
My greatest concern would actually be getting the wife approval factor.
also I currently use my main computer in the study and use a streaming device to play the simulator in the garage. I'm guessing with the uneekor or I would have to buy a new computer so it can plug directly into the hardware.
Well, I’m a Mac guy, so the computer purchase was a done deal when the decision was made to build a sim....that WGC software lasted about 10minutes when my SkyTrak went live.
It’s definitely a big chunk of change. But less than a GC2+HMT. And sounds like it’s not going to get cheaper later
I am having a great time with my Uneekor. I have been taking lessons at golftec and then practice in my Sim. Their gc2 mimics the Uneekor's output very dam close if not the same. A couple of things to keep in mind about the price increase. Do our Chinese tariffs come into play? I know your going to say it's Korean, but what components are made in China...we do add tariffs for secondary components: I know from my business (we are seeing a 25% increase in secondary components)? In addition, with all the feedback we are providing them about our wishes and changes to the software, that is going to take capital. It all costs money and these costs have to be recouped to hold their margins.
Their customer service is second to none. I built my business model upon that and reaped the benefits with growing sales, but I had to reinvest to maintain the service that our customers expected and inventory on hand to meet customer needs. Just food for thought on a business level.
Who would you recommend to reach out to there to ask about a unit??? I’m left handed and don’t want to switch every shot and can’t find a quad duo used anyway! Thanks!
I worked with Doug Bybee. Great guy, been in the golf industry a long time. He’s on here occasionally, but I can’t remember his handle. I’d email or call, he was very easy to talk with.
+1 For Doug and Uneekor. I know the OP already pulled the trigger but just wanted to say for other considering it, I went from SkyTrak to Uneekor and have no regrets. Great Customer service from Doug, and in particular, Austin! Nearly zero missed shots, no no-reads and practically no delay.
