He posted on the hb forum that he also created a 6000 yard version...did he send the file for that one?

Hi guys, I actually published this as "Shawnee Creek Golf Club - Old Course"

I published the full 6700-yard version via TGC, and I sent Craig the version from one tee box up (about 6000 yards), but haven't heard from him yet. It should be published soon.

Just so you know, the pictures above are actually from the OLD layout, and are not from this one. Here are some pictures from the new one -

        csu,

First let me say once again thanks for doing this. Modifying your creation to make it more suitable to us sim guys when you don't even have one yourself is the very definition of selflessness. You have made ProTee versions now of a number of your different courses. Is it fair to say though that this course went even a step further by making it more open and truly catering to the simulator crowd? Or would you say that you did the same process with this course as you did with your others? I am going to play them all regardless of the answer but just trying to understand if the process of making the ProTee versions was fully implemented and recognized with Shawnee Creek.

        Thanks again!

Hey ks-man, I am happy to do these. I always like designing, and with the ProTee crowd growing, it's a great community of real golfers to design for.

There are actually HUGE differences between my courses just "playable" for ProTee, and the ones (just Shawnee as of yet) actually DESIGNED for ProTee.

It basically comes down to a couple key points - playability and performance.

          Playability -

          - I use much wider "playable" areas, meaning there is a good amount of open space around each fairway, to allow for crooked drives, and allow a chance for recovery. It still makes the fairway the preferred path, but I don't like courses that give you only the fairway and nothing else.

          - Bunkers are generally not as deep, to allow players a chance to get out (although Shawnee's are pretty deep still because they are flat-bottomed).

          - Trees are sparse inside the hole boundaries, so that there are less vertical hazards.

          - Outside the hole boundaries, trees are spaced wider, in order for a chance of recovery in case a ball goes offline. I don't want anyone to ever get trapped in a forest or behind a bunch of trees they can't recover from.

          - Greens are not necessarily bigger, but they do have a little more subtle contours. Not by any means flat, though, but not nearly as much as my console courses.

          - Pins are placed more generously, to allow for bigger misses and give higher handicappers a chance to get it close. However, I very rarely will put a pin in the center of a green, but my pin positions are generally more accessible in ProTee courses.

          Performance -

          - Not too many objects added besides tee markers.

          - No animals, stakes or other objects that may - 1.) get in the way of play, and 2.) bog down a framerate on a lower-end machine.

          - I delete ALL the foliage, bushes and grasses, and only add them when absolutely necessary. I find the game's textures to be BETTER at depicting heavy grasses than actually using objects, and it has the added benefit of keeping the framerate better.

          - I remove all unwanted trees, and only plant trees when I want to shape a hole, or add one in the play of a hole.

          - Basically, when it comes to design in general LESS IS MORE

I'm going to be building more ProTee specific courses, and updating my old ones, so I'll keep everyone updated about how things are coming along.

          Thanks again!

Wow - no one has a better grasp of the key considerations of courses for simulator use. Thank you yet again for the effort csu!

Looks fantastic. Perhaps we can use this in our online tour!

Thanks for clarifying. I definitely got the sense from here and over at the HB-Studios forum that Shawnee was something different. I (and hopefully others) will definitely give you feedback on how it plays on the simulator and specifically the experience vs. some of your other courses. I'll probably come back here to post my thoughts as it seems the best place for that type of discussion. Can't wait to play it. Also looking forward to Loa Pali which I know isn't suited as well for a simulator but was the first time I saw a fiction course where my mouth dropped in disbelief about what could be created through the GNCD.
