  • New house build questions

Here come the questions! I'm building a house and decided to add a sim room which I've never had before. I know only enough about sim golf to be dangerous. I want to get GC2 so I can also get TGC. One apparent problem I will have to work around is we have no internet provider where we are building (only our cell phones). I'm not overly concerned since I don't have an interest in the online tournament play, but I will have to figure out how to do the updates. The room is going to spec out at approximately 18.5 feet long and 14 feet wide with 13 foot ceiling due to the entire room being dropped 3 feet down from the rest of the basement (sunken room).

The current questions I have are:
    1. How tall and how wide should I make the screen? Not familiar with projectors or the lingo such as 16:9 or any of that.
    2. If I offset the ball placement 1' over from dead center of the room, will that create any issues? I get too close with my driver for my comfort when I swing with the ball centered.
    3. Should I attach the screen directly to the side walls and the ceiling 1' in front of the back wall or build a frame inside the room and attach the screen and net to that frame?
    4. I hit every wedge and iron really high, so I will need something that protects the ceiling. Do I put something right on the ceiling (padding of a sort) or use black netting?
    5. Should the ceiling netting be at the top of the screen or a little above the top of screen.
    6. Many more questions to come as I get more into the build I'm sure

Is there a reason you are dropping down 3'? My room is 14' wide and about 23' long with 10' ceilings and I don't think I'd want 13' ceilings. 10'6" or 11' wouldn't be bad.

Here are a few responses to your questions:

1- As wide as possible (wall to wall)
2- 1' over shouldn't matter too much unless you have a really vertical swing plane and your projector is in that plane, but it sounds like you have more of a flat swing if you need to move over.
3- I would attach to angle iron on the side walls and ceiling (may be more difficult with 13' ceilings)
4- Either could work depending on how you want it to look.
5- Depends on your screen size and what you are using to attach and how you want it to look

I mis-typed the height. We have 9' ceilings in the whole basement and a 3' drop into this room for a total of 12' high ceilings. When I decide how I will do the flooring over the concrete and a stance mat on top of that (probably CCE) and put sound-deadening insulation up on the ceiling with drywall over that it will come in around 11.5 feet.

If it's not too late and you're just dropping that room for the sim, I'd think about having an 18"-24" drop instead of 3'. I'm pretty sure most screens are 10' in height maximum, so you would basically have wasted space or create obstacles in hanging the screen.

It's too late to change that. The basements been poured for a couple months. My brothers are building it so I'll just have them frame something down to attach the screen to on the top side. How close to your angle iron is your screen so those little bungees work? Looks like 6"or so in another post of yours?

From the ceiling to the top of the screen is 5 1/2" and that is with tarp clips, 6" ball bungees, and 1 1/4" slotted angle iron.

Where should I place the recessed lights and how many should i put in the room? I planned to use dimmer switches for the lights and use the can lights that can be directionally adjusted to point where i want the light. Also, is a single plug in the ceiling for the projector enough and do I need a special receptacle for the computer on the side wall or will a regular plugin work there?

I have 6 led cans that are on a dimmer in a room that is a little bigger. I would go with 4 for yours. Put two by the bar and 2 on the bar side of the projector (pretty much over the hitting area). You'll need to run an HDMI cable to the projector from your computer/audio receiver and a single power outlet is sufficient. A surge protected strip or UPS is advisable where the computer is.

TGC is worthless w/o internet FYI. You can only play about a dozen courses offline.
