    Possible to raise ceiling ???

    Hi everyone, new member here. I have a spare room in my house and would love to build a sim in it. The room is roughly 12ft wide by 13.5ft long. My problem is that the ceiling is only 7ft 11'' high.
    My question is, will it be possible to race my ceiling 2ft or so? Also are there any members that have tried this with success.

    If you live in a place where it snows. I would talk to a general contractor. When you're talking about ceiling and reconfiguring the truss system of the roof. It can have bad results.

      There are several ways to do it, one being you can get truss pieces that will bolt onto each side of the current truss and allow you to cut it into a vaulted ceiling. There are other ways to do it, but make sure you get someone who really knows what they are doing and check to see what codes if any you may need to comply with.

        If there's a load on your roof and you don't know the answer better to speak to a professional.

              Thats a very good idea. You could dig it out and laid out the floor exactly as needed.

            I'm in Ireland so it snows but not very often. Digging down definitely wouldn't be an option. 2ft is a lot and it would be impossible as i'd have to have all the plumbing/heating redone.
            This room is part of an extension which has a separate roof and attic from the main house. As this extension is quite small i don't think there is ever much load on the roof.

              Digging down is "underpinning" and is surprisingly costly. It's usually cheaper to add on to be honest. As far as raising the roof, definitely you can do it, it's just a matter of cost. Leading up to a renovation on a previous house, I asked the contractor about something being "possible", and he told me that "in construction anything is possible. It's not so much an if, but more of how much"
