  • Replacing ProTee with a launch monitor

I purchased a ProTee system last year and have had ongoing issues. I have sent the sensor mat back to the manufacturer in hopes that they find it is faulty and will replace it. The whole situation has me thinking about replacing it with a launch monitor. It just seems simpler, without special lights, cameras, and sensors. It would also be nice to hit off of a plain mat.

Has anyone made this change? If so, I'd love to hear about your experience and decision. The ProTee came with TGC software, which I would like to re-use, but it's not critical.

Clubhead speed is important to me, so I started looking at the ES16. It seems to have horrible reviews (no need to rehash them). But the other monitors that provide club speed seem to be much more expensive. SkyTrak seems to get very good reviews, but it does not provide club speed data. For those of you that use SkyTrak, have you found that to be a big issue?

I'd appreciate any thoughts and comments.

There are other cheap and fairly accurate devices you can use in conjunction with a LM if you want CHS.

Really hate to hear you are having problems with ProTee system. I've had mine for a couple of years and works great....I've worked with the guys here on the forum and at Protee on my initial issues and was able to get everything dialed in...so hopefully they can get you straightened out.

That said, I think the consensus on this board if you have to go to a launch monitor would be 1)GC2 system. Everyone agrees it is best LM. But to get all the data it will cost you about 10,000 and you will have to tape your clubs. 2) Skytrak is 2nd choice....get in for a fraction of the costs but the guys report some misreads or no reads but for the money seem to be happy with it.

That's my assessment on the general opinion of the forum but you can dig around. The other thing I would factor in making the switch is with TGC, you will get a shot delay with any launch monitor.

I see this is your first post on the board. You might want to start another topic in the Protee section and tell us your problem...maybe we can help. Seriously, if you can get your system working properly, it really is a great system.

Gene - very helpful post. Thank you. As an update, I heard from ProTee today, and they are shipping me a new mat. I hope to get it to work. In the meantime, I learned that Ernest Sports was located here in Atlanta. Despite all of the horrible reviews on this forum, I stopped by to talk to them. For what it's worth, they were very nice, said all of the problems are with outdoor use, and even gave me an ES16 unit to try for 2 nights at my home. I was only able to use the driving range app (ES Sport?) and it worked very well in my indoor area. I know there has been a lot of bashing so wanted to be sure to provide an objective data point. If I can;t get the ProTee to work, I will very seriously consider switching to the ES16, as I would only use it indoors.

your welcome....I'm not familiar with E16 other than reports on here. To me, and perhaps only me, I prefer the Protee to any launch monitor for 2 main reasons. 1)Absolutely no shot delay. I really, really like that, or to put another way, to hit a ball then wait 2-3 seconds to see it fly on the screen totally ruins the "simulation" experience for me. Most guys I think don't mind because they have never experienced a "no delay" experience, so you don't miss what you've never had....at any point, it's important to me. 2) I have left/right players so a mat system is more convenient.

I will warn you that when you do get the protee mat back, you will probably have to put a little work into it to get it dialed in. Some guys want a "plug n play" solution and for them the launch monitors are the way to go.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Gene, I wonder if you have any advice for setting up the Matt properly. I had to send my pc in because of a faulty vid card and since I have gotten it back I have had more misreads then previously. Nothing changed in my setup other than I had to reinstall all the software. Any insight is appreciated.
      thanks

        Hi Rich,

Are you still having issues with your sensor mat?
Otherwise we also have a great support ready to help you on your way.

Foresight has their CPO GC2 for $5,400.00 and you can pick a used one up for better than that if you watch ebay or on this forum.
I never could get my ES-16 to function properly indoors, it uses an algorithm for ball flight and is calculated by which club you pick not surer what reading it uses, which works somewhat if your club has the same loft as what they calculate for. My grandson and I both used the same club when playing on the ES-16 but out on the course there is a two club difference between us, him being the longer hitter and it also shows that when we use the GC2.
