  • Please Help Me

First off, I have started my simulator with the optishot2 and it is fun, but not what I am looking for long term. I have a large basement reno upcoming and want to integrate a golf simulator into the remodel. The problem I have with the optishot isn't so much in the game play as in the fact that I have to calibrate the club and tape off all of my clubs before playing which is annoying and not very fun for visitors. For the price, I can't really complain though.

I know very little about these things, but I would like to go with a refurbished GC2 and HMT if possible. I already have a computer, projector, and real astro turf to hit off of and am fully capable of building a frame from angle iron for the impact screen, so I believe all I really need is a touchscreen monitor and the GC2/HMT. I read a lot about the FSX software and see some things about other simulation softwares that possibly work with the GC2, but I am getting mixed information on the forums. I really would like to stay under $12K for the total budget on the system, can someone help me out with some thoughts on my build and let me know potential pitfalls? Here is what I am planning.

    GC2 refurbished - $5,200
    HMT refurbished - $4,900
    Turf - Already Have
    Angle Iron - Already Have
Computer & Projector - Already Have
    Touch Screen Monitor - $500
Net Return Impact Screen & Net - $1,295
Software package for simulation - (Budgeted $1,000 Left, not sure which direction to go here)

Any thoughts on better ideas is really appreciated. I should add that I am a GHIN 15 handicap golfer, with the ability to shoot under par on days where my swing is consistent, but I am wildly unpredictable from day to day. One day hook, one day slice, another day perfect baby draw. No earthly idea what I do differently and am looking for unit to help me improve skills and repeatability with swing path, eventual goal to play even most days on a typical city course. I don't get to play much more that once a week for a few months out of the year (4 kids under the age of 5) so I am hoping this will allow me the ability to play 4 or 5 holes at night a few times a week as well as have friends over for the typical beverage and golf outing in the winter.

    Thanks,

I also updated from the optishot to GC2/HMT. The TGC software is great and is in line for a big update we hope. The video game version is out now and you can check it out. If you dont get FSX 2018 you can use the app for analysis etc it is free. I would look for a used GC2 and then buy the HMT from foresight then they will let you register your used GC2 for free. They have sales sometimes. I bought my HMT from them for $4,500. Just curious is the touch screen monitor really important. You could save that $500 and get JNPG also very good software.

I don't think your screen will cost that much and you can use an Ipad to control the game if you go with TGC. $1K is only going to get you TGC, FSX software will cost you $2500 - $3000 depending if you bundle it in when you buy your CG2. You also may need a short throw projector depending on your setup.

JNPG for sim play is definitely the way to go.

I see the JNPG is a annual fee (pretty reasonable) but I plan on using this set-up for many years, so I might be better of going with the TGC, does anyone know is that a one time fee? Also, I am not sure what the TGC even is, I see prices all the way up to $3,000 when I search for it, can someone provide me a link that shows where to purchase it?

Can you use ipad for TGC with skytrak as well? Have researched and cannot find anyone who uses skytrak with ipad for TGC. Thanks.

The Ipad is used in place of the keyboard it just has a GUI to control keystrokes in the game.

I would not get the net return and touch screen. That way you have more money for software. TGC is great for playing courses. For practice Foresights own software is still the best.
If you can get a second hand unit with FR1 and add TGC you will be set.
