Not sure on what to purchase

Hey guys.

I have asked this before, but now I think I am more confused, and perhaps now have paralysis by analysis.
Little back ground.
Live in Wisconsin - no outdoor golf from end of Oct till mid April.
Me: 50 yrs old. Low to mid 90's player. Left Handed. Play 9 in beer league weekly, plus usually another 18 most weeks.
Daughter: 14, just finishing up 1st year of High School Golf. Shoot's low 50's. At times, upper 40's. Really loves the game. Take lessons weekly from swing coach almost all year long.

Purchased hitting next this early spring, along with hitting mat from Rawhide Golf. Then purchased R-Motion (from here). Also a high power Dell gaming laptop, and impact screen from Direct from Mill on here as well. Just need a projector and some sort of measuring device.

R-Motion is cool. Clips are kind of a pain, and was not a huge fan of the iPhone app, just for the fact that it's small. Old eyes.

So thinking I would like to get something more than R-Motion. Thinking for my daughter, being able to swing all winter long will only help to improve her game. For me, it would give a good reason to have buddies over to have a couple and play a few holes.

Biggest thing for me is ability to do righty/lefty without to much pain. Not sure I totally understand all the ball/club data that is displayed, and honestly how much that's needed for my game. However, would it be helpful for my daughters games.

I like the Unekoor QED camera view, which show's the slow motion view of the club, like was the face open or closed at impact. To me that would seem valuable, and useful for my daughter for developing consistent swing memory and seeing what her club is doing.

She's got 3 more years of HS golf, so I am not afraid of spending a few bucks on this, but want to make sure I am making the right decision.
So is it Skytrack? Unekoor? something else?
What data if any is important?
Is a $2,000 Skytrack "good" enough? Yes the lefty/rigthy thing would be a pain on ST, but it's not like it's never been done before.
Or..... do I go for something like Unekoor?

Help me spend my minnow money before my wife finds it and decides she needs' another GD purse!!!

Kevin, I had the same questions. We purchased a lower cost mat sensor simulator and last week upgraded to the Uneekor. I wrestled with living with our initial investment and cost of the upgrade. it has been an amazing upgrade, with absolutely no regrets. The Uneekor system works flawlessly and is perfect for R and L play. My kids and their friends are playing non stop. You will not be dissapointed. Seamless left and right play, immediate response and fantastic support.

I think you answered it when you said the biggest thing for you is righty lefty play. Your daughter will be fine with skytrak and improve if she uses it.

1. Used gc2 then hmt if your into club data
2. Uneekor if it could read unmarked golf balls properly.

I had the GC2/HMT and loved it, (also had three other systems before that) problem being for awhile it looked like I was going to have to switch to left-handed play, I soon found it was a headache moving the unit back and forth during play even though I had measured and put down marks to just where the unit went for play for either handed player. I got the Uneekor and am loving it, I am not happy having to use marked balls but it is a lot easier than moving a unit around. Uneekor is out of the way so you don't have the worry of someone hitting it, adding swing cameras onto it gives you even more information on improving your swing, the ball track camera makes seeing the impact easy and very informative. I went with the QED IGNITE setup and use TGC 2019 and am enjoying the sim play more than I have in a long time, it is well worth the cost.

Do you have the room available to switch back and forth from L to R? Or is your sim room off-set, meaning you would be hitting into one side of the net/screen or the other? I think similar to what BGCurtis2nd said, it's not just about moving your LM. If you have cables involved or cameras you will have to consider moving them too. There have been many more positive things mentioned about the Uneekor than negative. The way folks praise the customer support makes me think they will fix the ball issue. Plus, I know a guy that can get you the stickers needed so you can use premium balls with the Uneekor... 100+ sets of the Uneekor patterned stickers for $15 mailed within the continental US

I agree pretty much with all the above. I'm on my third system(Uneekor) and I think investing in a quality system for your daughter is a great investment....the family time and having her around the house will be priceless to you as she grows up.

The Uneekor is a great system. I think the marked ball thing is a little blown up...but you have to have something to complain about, right? I would imagine you and your daughter will do fine with the balls that come with the unit. If you want to really maximize the accuracy of the numbers, then you do like some of us and put dots on your favorite premium ball. Would I rather not have to hit marked balls, sure.....but honestly, after 3 systems, I can tell you that the Uneekor is the easiest to setup and maintain, most accurate, and most complete system I have played on. It is hassle free and left/right play is easy. It has all the tools to allow you to get as technical as you want as well as the ability to integrate with other 3rd party software should you want to get online and play with others.

I actually think the Protee gives a pretty accurate reading, especially club head data. It's a good system if your setup is permanent and you have total control of the lighting. And when considering costs, it's a pretty good value. The Uneekor by contrast is simple to setup and really is maintenance free. You never have to worry about cameras, lighting, etc. You just turn it on and hit. For me, seeing the actual video coming into the ball was the primary reason I bought the Uneekor. That plus the swing analysis module just puts the Uneekor above most systems...

One question that was asked was my room space. This is in my heated shop, which has 10 ft ceiling.
Current hitting net is 12 wide, 10 deep and 9 tall.

This summer I was pretty set on SkyTrack and utilizing a turntable or put some cavities in the mat for the L/P play.
Since then, watching Gene's videos and others comments, I think Unekoor would be a great solution and solve the issue for L/R play.

Looks like I'll be emailing the team at Uneekor for some pricing and options.
Maybe they offer a High School discount!!!!!!

Building is 30 by 60. Most of it is setup for my shop. But will reconfigure for the hitting space.
Could make is as wide as needed. Only limited to impact screen size, which is 12 wide

Man, I was about to write a post about this myself but thought since you captured it so well I would simply try to gain more info in one spot. I literally am on this blog everyday lol, started my sim experience last year, and moved back and forth from my basement (8.5ft)/garage. I have finally settled on a good system I can pull down/up in 5-6 minutes in the garage. So I have everything I need, spent lots of money adding in a heater, roll up screen, curtains on a rail system, computer, projector etc so now i come down to the final decision on what simulator. I used R-motion last year just to make sure i really was going to use it. Originally, I was sold on getting the Skytrak but Uneekor has really turned my head. So to my questions:

1) Does skytrak give you a "fair" representation of your actual ball flight, if you had to give it a percentage of accuracy what would you say?
2) I have 13ft ceilings in my garage, would I have to find a way to bring the Uneekor down to 10ft or would it work mounted on the ceiling
3) My garage is usually around 15-18 degrees in winter, anyone see any issues with leaving it set up permanently (uneekor)?
4) My main purpose is to keep the swing going through winter and feeling that when I hit a shot in general it does what I think it should do/I also really loved the tour last year
5) Is the skytrak pretty quick to "Align" once you get the hang of it?
6) Does the skytrak really drop the connection all the time or is it just a wifi thing?

Once again, apologies if I hijacked the thread, if i did please let me know and I will create my own post, while I had budgeted for the Skytrak this year, the Uneekor is not completely out to lunch for me; however, if I am getting a 5% better experience I would prefer to save the 6k (Cdn) difference. I am astounded by the knowledge of this group, so while i know we all make our own decisions, I would like to gather as much feedback from those who have been there, done that. Skytrak is an excellent piece of kit, but it has its quirks.
1) it is accurate, up to 150mph b-speed, questionable after that - if I was younger I would worry more haha. It'll miss shots if you skull one, or shank or whatever - basically if the ball doesn't pass through the light curtain to trigger the caneras. More of a problem for visitors I always found. It can also be funny about stuff that is IR reflective in the camera shot. Even some clothes illuminate more than you could believe possible under IR light...

3) I'd be worried. I'd want something I could bring in...
4) skytrak tracks ball and spin, so it "knows" how you hit it. Catching fat and turning it over, toe, heel or whatever changes the strike, and will be reflected in ball speed and spin. A slight over draw/over fade is the general consensus. Spin decay gets some noise on the forum, but is negligible in practice (IMO)
5) mine is drop and go - but some people are more anal about exact alignment. Mine aligns to the unit case, some people are not that lucky. If you know your strike, you can generally tell if it's not 100% straight and shift it.
6) I literally never lose connection. That said, I'm an IT guy, so I know networks and have a dedicated 2.4gHz wifi access point 2ft from the ST. It has a hard wired connection (via powerline) direct to router. Wifi issues with sporadic connection are almost always down to contention and noise. It can be a fridge or a freezer, a cordless phone or even a wireless keyboard mouse/keyboard. There are apps for PC (netstumbler) and Android (wifi analyzer) which can show you what your connection is like. My suggestion: try channels other than 1,6 or 11 - these are the most heavily used channels as they don't overlap, but you can often find bandwidth around the edges. True for all gear, not just ST.

Hi ALL!

I am enjoying this thread and looking to set up a garage sim myself, in NE, USA. I have an unheated garage, attached to the residence on one side and below a second story bedroom. The ambient temperature warnings for the various devices that are permanent ceiling mounted, is giving me pause. I can't seem to find the specs/real world eperience on similar setups, for say Uneekor, but no doubt others have non heated garage installs. Even with heaters, anyone have specs/experience on required ambient temperature for safe permanent installs?

OTOH, I understand that possibly in Q1 2020, Uneekor may offer a floor model unit. I don't know more than that, however. I do feel, however, that there seems to me that a tech jum, from several purveyors is likely to be seen around Jan 2020. Just a guess, but might be worthwhile to see what happens there as well.
