  • Planning to purchase

I am planning on spending $30,000 on a new sim. Will be in a room 20X20 with 10’ High ceiling. I have recently started researching sim manufacturers. I find it very difficult to make fair comparisons. They all say their technology is the best. I am leaning towards the HD simulator brand . Does anyone have any suggestions? Is HD a good product and company?

Once upon a time if you wanted a sim you contacted a company like HD and spent a lot of money. They are good but the biggest changes in golf simulation in the last 10 years have been with launch monitor based simulators. The benefit of these is they are easy to set up and provide amazing data and provide amazing simulation. You can get all mats screens ect from Par2Pro or Carls golf.

Here’s the way to go with 1 2 or 3 based on what I consider best. 1 or 2 are under 30k and 3 well under. Any contractor can install these. It’s easy.

    1. Trackman 4 with TM software or TGC, a PC, a mat, a screen and a projector.
    2. Foresight (GC2, Quad or Hawk) with FSX or TGC (Everyone here uses TGC with GC2. Quad and Hawk are FSX only right now) a PC, Mat, screen, projector
    3. Uneekor with TGC, PC, Projector, mat, screen

For a turn key solution, look at AboutGolf, Trugolf and HD. These solutions are closer to 50k and will only use their PC, Software and courses.

Sort of like going to a car dealer and telling them that you have 30K to spend! For sure you'll end up spending 30K!

    Merry Christmas and good luck!

Thx. Quite obvious but I was asking if there is a better product than HD

Trackman can integrate with HD but a full trackman sim is better. Both bought full sim from them installed will be 50k

You should be aware, Trackman uses Radar and requires a larger space depth (I think 20') for radar to read, while Foresight & Uneekor can get by with less. I'm installing a ProTee which you did not mention and installing it in 16' of depth (only about 9' from the screen). What I've learned over watching this forum the last 5 years is that a lot of it depends on if you want to keep paying subscription fees as some software requires it, others do not, and how you want your launch monitor to sense a swing as well as how much data you want to have.

I looked at HD myself, but at $30K could never afford that - so I'm building my own. As mthunt mentions Trackman is better, but even more expensive - if you have unlimited dollars to throw at this, then check that you will get the best ball/club data that you want from the most expensive system. You can find demo videos of all these systems being played to help you out.

For 30k you can certainly pick up one of Tru-Golf's Vista pro series and still have some money left over. In fact, I think you could pick up the Premium free standing Sim seen here: https://trugolf.com/simulators/free-standing/ . All of these would come with Connect (I believe).

I would echo some of the sentiments above (from people who have done a lot of research): You can have a very nice set up for far less than 30k if you put it together yourself. Spend 10-12K and have plenty of money to pay a carpenter to do the work if you wanted to go that route. A lot of it depends on your particular needs.

I'm estimating mthunts suggestions in order:
      1. ~20K
      2. ~15K
      3. ~10K
      Good Luck!

Just to add, there is no best simulator. You have many options depending on cost, space and what you want the Sim for. Are there rights and lefts playing? I agree with Mthunt. Build your own will be cheaper. Do your research and ask tonnes of questions.

I think if you’re planning on spending that kind of money and are unsure of what you’re picking, go to the pga merchandise show in 2 weeks in Orlando. Your golf pro can get you a pass or they used to do a public day the last day but I’m not sure if they still do that. Any and all manufactures will be there I would imagine and they’ll all let you take their system for a twirl.
