Ideal distance from ball to impact screen

I really enjoy reading this forum and am thankful for how much helpful information is here. I am in the planning stages of my simulator build.

I would like to know what you think the ideal distance is from ball to impact screen. I searched the forum and found a few smaller threads about it but nothing definitive or exhaustive.

I am currently able to swing freely with 8 1/2 feet or so (ball to screen) and can do a little site work to get 1 to 2 more feet of distance/breathing room. I'm not sure if I should put the money and labor into it and would love to hear some advice. Thanks in advance!

I think most simulator companies recommend 10 - 12 feet but I swing from about 8 feet from the screen and have no problem with bounce back. Just make sure that if you have an enclosure that you have the correct depth and width not to hit it from that distance.

Perhaps I'm just used to it but I swing from just under 8' to the screen and enjoy my sim immensely. It's what happens after the ball hit's the screen that matters anyway! Maybe with a couple of extra feet you would get a better sense of space and graphics might appear slightly better from a distance but speaking only for myself, there doesn't seem to be much to gain if it's going to bump the cost significantly. Thanks Mike and Scott.

I'm probably overthinking it. I just want to be able to swing freely and not feel too cramped. I don't have much indoor golf experience.

Would love to hear more advice from the community here.

I suspect it would depend on your height, length of arms, driver, but I really think 8.5 feet ball to screen would work.

I hit in to a net so I can’t comment on screen bounce back but I have no issues at less than 8’. When my Mevo+ arrives I’m going to have to move back for ball flight but I’m somewhere between 6’ and 7’ now. For me I took a few swings when I first set up fairly slowly and exaggerated on what it took to hit the net and realized pretty quick how impossible it would be to hit my net with any sort of realistic swing and never looked back.
