  • Skytrak vs. Mevo+ PICK ONE

I've done a decent amount of research and watched some of the review videos. I keep going back and forth and figured getting some input from you all could help.

I will be using this primarily indoors and space should not be an issue. For those of you that have one or both of these, what is your pick and why?

Also, I just got the Fiberbuilt Practice Station for mat but I don't think that will make a difference with either of these sims.

    Thanks everyone!

If space were a non-issue I would get the Mevo+. Nothing particular as they both have various faults. The easy transport to the range is a plus.

      I have both.
They are both very good units but one size does not fit all. I have had my ST for 5 years. It’s been a solid unit. I have had the M+ for a few months.
I purchased the Mevo+ for 4 main reasons.
      - less no reads
      - better application outdoors
      - No LM within swing area
      - AOA plus a few other data parameters.
The weakness of the M+ in IMO is chipping and putting and gear effect shots on indoor play. But its very early in its infancy, so it has the potential to improve. ST did not come out of the gates with all its pearly whites showing either.
ST flight model does not suit my ball flight. A little strong with its draw bias. It does read gear effect shots better. (I need to learn to find the center of the club face more.....)
ST app is very good. It has continued to get better.
FS apps are okay, but not thought out well for mobile application. Apparently they will be better suited on next update. PC application would be better. ST has their software for both.
I personally prefer the M+ but it has room for improvement.

Have you checked out Gunghogolf site. Has a great comparison list.
At around $2,000 each, the SkyTrak and the FlightScope Mevo+ represent the most affordable options in accurate, reliable launch monitors for practice and simulated golf play. Both units measure all the critical ball launch data necessary to model real ball flight. Golf enthusiasts are lucky to have two great choices at

I owned ST for 2 years and have had my M+ for 3 months now (I hit balls on TM4 indoors once a week also and last few weeks I’ve had about 3 hours a session on it).

Neither are perfect but even the TM4 at 10x the price isn’t perfect.

M+ is better value to me overall but that will vary by your needs.

        - M+ is better outdoors hands down. It’s great at the range and I even bring it on course occasionally for my friends. ST is finicky outdoors at best when there is any sun and I could never get it to pick up a yellow range ball even when cloudy. If you take it outdoors ever to me it’s not a comparison.
        - M+ is spot on with everything it measures except spin axis for me (compared side by side with TM4) and my frequency of misreads and no reads is very low. Spin axis needs some work but as pwade3 said they are working on improvements (I’m not on the newest beta firmware yet which I’ve heard helps a lot).
        - ST always felt off but some of the comparisons I’ve seen lately suggest I was maybe hard on it. Ball speed was slow with driver/3wood for me but they’ve made updates aimed at fixing this since I sold mine. Horizontal launch angle is poor on ST in my opinion. I’m pretty accurate on start line so I found this really annoyed me. I’d hit the string I had centred in my net and it could easily read 3 degrees offline in either direction (stated error is 2 degrees but I found it worse). I also found it over read spin axis (all software) but more recent testing suggests I may have been wrong on the reads but the ST software definitely shows more curve than I get in real life. It wasn’t an awful practice feature as I knew if I was controlling flight on ST it would go straight on the course.
        - Put more simply, I know my ball flight and data well. I have far fewer shots I scratch my head after on M+ than I did on ST. But the M+ kills me on push driver off the toe as it goes off the planet right.
        - ST range app is awesome. Way better than both FS range apps combined in my opinion (and it’s annoying to have two separate apps anyway). I also preferred to use PC which you can’t do on FS yet but I hear that’s coming.
        - M+ comes with basic sim software which may be enough for some or at least gives you something to spread costs out at the start.
        - While there is probably almost no chance it ever gets Fully unlocked the M+ is tracking club data and ST is not. I struggle with being steep so AoA is a great addition for me. Right now I’m also struggling with efficiency which (93 mph swing speed 7i with 115 mph ball speed) which is I see clearly on M+ but may not on ST as it estimates club head speed so without a second device measuring club speed I may think I’m swinging slow as opposed to inefficient. I’m not holding my breath but FS has told me M+ is capable of path/face Club data so there’s a small chance of unlock at some point for a fee whereas the best ST will ever have is software estimates which are only decent on Center strikes.

Lastly, M+ is new whereas ST is not. Others may says this is a ST win (see all the arguments for GC2 based on track record etc) but for me the new product that’s on par or slightly ahead (M+ vs ST) I give the nod to new product. They appear to have re-engaged but ST took about a year hiatus from doing anything to their product whereas M+ is a huge FS focus right now.

I think pwade and Gresh have summed it up nicely and given excellent reviews and advice.

It also may depend a little on what you're looking to do with it. If you're looking for just practice only, mevo might be the way to go because of the additional measurements like angle of attack and better outdoor use. But if you're looking to play a lot of sim golf, skytrak seems to be better with short chips and putts.

Beware of one BIG problem with Mevo+. Some reviews have stated that you MUST use the microUSB charger provided with the Mevo+. Using another charger could cause issues and has caused issues for some other people. Oh and the charging cord is stupid short.

Other than that, all the points above are spot on with what you need to know.

Use a portable USB power station. There's a list of compatible devices provided by FS.

I've only ever used SkyTrak, but i really like it. I use it indoors and it's great. My main knock on it is that is doesn't work amazing outdoors. Tends to miss some shots. But other than that I use it all the time and have no concerns with it! My main issue with Mevo+ is that it's placed on the target line rather than in front of the ball, which requires more space. And since I use my launch monitor primarily indoors I don't have the space for Mevo+
