Need Advice: Buy TGC on sale now (9 months in advance)?

    Hello,

I was hoping to use the expertise on this forum to help make my decision! I am located in Canada where I am currently building a home with a dedicated simulator room. The house will be done in approximately 8 months....I noticed that TGC was on sale for the price below off the Skytrak website:

    Special Dual Package Offer:
    • TGC One Time Purchase: ($1,345) $1,085
    • TGC 2019 One Time Purchase: ($1,345) $1,210
Total Price: ($2,415) Package Price: $1,345

Would you guys recommend me purchasing this now and holding it for around 8 months? Or would you guys just wait and buy it once I have everything set up.

I honestly don't know if this is a great deal or if this is something that comes around often. I appreciate your help in advance! Thanks.

I don't know about in Canada but the price doesn't seem to really fluctuate here in the U.S. It's currently listed at $895 for the lifetime purchase of TGC2019 and it's been at that same price probably since the game came out. The package price for both is $995 and again I don't think that's changed.

I don't see much reason to buy the original TGC. Save yourself some money and just get the 2019 version.

Probably not much reason to buy it now as I doubt it will be any more expensive in the future. If anything, it would be more likely to decrease than increase.

If you have a suitable computer you can buy the steam version now (the version that you can just play on the computer with a mouse or controller). I was able to buy it recently for $8. That will let you get a feel for the game and you can design courses and what not to keep you occupied until you can start actually playing the sim version.

If its of any interest to you, I bought The Golf Club 2019 PC game today (Thursday) for $10.06 Canadian. It's worth it even if you just want to look at the courses or to try your hand at designing a few holes. I have the original simulator version of The Golf Game, I never purchased the 2019 version. If I didn't already have the original version I would only buy the 2019 version, not the combo.

The PC game can be picked up on Steam if you want to buy it. I wouldn't recommend shelling out $900 bucks for something you won't use for 9 months. What IF they announced sim play for TGC2k21 in 9 months? You'll be kicking yourself.

Oh and I was watching the TGC2019 for Skytrak pricing for over a year. It's remained at this sale price the entire time. Will it go up? Maybe. But with COVID-19 around, why risk losing potential customers. I suspect pricing for the software (which is more of a commodity since there's no hard goods being sold nor much development money being poured in) that you'll be fine.

I would not recommend getting the package. I ended up buying the package for both TGC and TGC2019 and I have not opened TGC once. As for getting it now on sale and having it sit for 8 months, as others have said, I wouldn't do that. If you had a net and someplace to set up in a backyard or something like that to play in the meantime, I would do that, but if you won't be using it at all, I would wait. Also, if you are interested in designing courses or anything in the meantime, I would recommend getting the steam version. I have both and use the Steam version for designing and playing on the game to explore courses, etc. and use the ST version just for sim play.
