  • Upgrading my hitting area

Currently I have SKYTRAK, a Spornia net and a 5x5 mat

i just purchased an impact screen, very large moving blanket, projector and a 6x12 real feel mat. I am thinking about using 1” pipe to support the impact screen and moving blanket with more piping on the sides to form the square hitting area.

My trouble is how to secure it to the ceiling. I’m thinking about screwing a 2x4 to the ceiling and mounting the horizontal pipe to the 2x4 with something like a horseshoe clamp so I can rotate the entire thing up towards the ceiling so I don’t lose my garage space.

What do you think of this plan or do any of you have any other ideas that might work better?

    thanks

What about using hooks like this to hang the pipes from, if you find the right size and shape the pipe should rotate in it nicely.

I went with 3/4 inch steel pipe with 3/4 horseshoe brackets to attach the horizontal bar to the 2x4’s. Tarp clamps with thick zip ties to secure the screen to the pipe all the way around. I didn’t go with the 6x12 mat but I did go with 1/4 inch thick soft pads at the bottom of the screen and the ball comes back after dropping straight down. I don’t even have the large moving blanket behind the screen yet.

Going to use a kayak pulley system to take it up out of the way when not in use.

Let me know what you think

Very nice! So the screen/frame will rotate up and be stored parallel to the ceiling when not in use? I'd like to see pics of the integration of the kayak pulleys once complete.

Yes, I currently have 550 cord and two small pulleys in place to pull it up to the ceiling. I just received a kayak pulley system and will install that shortly. I’ll update with photos

You can purchase 1” EMT Conduit “mini’s” at any big box store. These will mount on the ceiling or wall with a 1/2” gap and will support the conduit well. You can tighten the bolt tighten enough for support but still loosen enough for movement if rotating the screen frame up.

Nice, nicer if you paint the 2x4

Here’s the finished pulley system. Less than a minute to put it down then back up. Works as it should.

sorry I can’t upload the video but it works great
