  • FLOOR PLAN- COMMENTS REQUESTED

    Guys,

I am slowly but surely wearing down the wife and hope to have this installed by this summer.

I have attached a proposed layout-- any input will be helpful.

I am giving myself 8 ft from the screen to my mat. I assume the actual hitting postion is about 2 feet onto the mat- giving my 10 total ft from ball to screen.

I would really, really love to get an automatic ball tee-er. Any suggestions that dont cost like 5k.

My room is 21x21 with 11 ft ceilings. I plan on making the raised platform about 8 inches tall.

I got one of these as an automatic ball placer. You just tap the button and it dispenses the next ball.
Cost me less than $10 off eBay including shipping! It looks a bit like a kids toy, but works really well.

        Interesting on the TEEGO.

I am going to get the GC2 and TGC software. Not sure on what projector quite yet. Wanting to do a 16ft wide x 9 ft tall screen.

Only problem I see is you'll want those chairs to be at least 10 ft back from your hitting area.

Hmm. I don't think that is possible unless I move the hitting position like 8 ft from the screen. What is the proper distance?

8 feet is crazy close. You should be 10.

I use a GC2 and my screen is only 7 feet from the hitting area. I set up my screen kinda like a shower curtain where I slide it over when I want to use it. Right side is anchored and I use a bungee cord in a couple spots to keep the left side tight. Using Cory's HQ raw screen and it hangs on the floor with an extra foot and a half. This keep balls from going under the screen and I also have a 3/8" fiberglass rod keeping the base of the net tight and the weight of the rod helps hold the base in place. Short throw projector in front of the hitting platform.

So depending on the projector 7 feet is not an issue. Plan for overhead netting and a way that the projector will not need to shine through that. A super short throw projector would fill that screen nice at 6 to 7 feet back.

I have a similar setup and I am about 8' from screen with no issues. I am waiting on a PR20 screen to show up, currently just using a canvas drop cloth and then a net behind it, both slide out like a shower curtain.

My set up is currently 15 feet (ball to screen distance) and I've got 24 inches between my screen and the back wall.

My goal is to project onto the wall (on an actual HD screen, not a simulator impact screen), mount the projector a couple feet away from the wall (ultra short throw) and put up some loosely hanging netting between the golfer and projector (around 8.5 feet from the ball, 1 foot from the projector and 12 feet from the wall). This would save me 5 feet and eventually permit me to add more simulators without needing more square footage.

Good idea to project the image in front of the netting and yet not need a backlit material to rear project the image.

With this type of idea in mind for anyone that has a weak image with a low bulb brightness, if you ever tried to shine a projector onto reflective media (like signs are made from), it works like you would see when they talk about a screen with screen gain. You can get banner material for signs where you would print on but if you used similar to that material you could make a very bright screen but you would need to seam it, however that would not be noticeable. Only down fall is that you need to be in front of the screen to get the whole brightness effect and as you get off to the sides you won't notice it as much. Just another thought to throw into a mix.

I'm building out two additional simulator enclosures in the next week - but I've just about given up on my idea to use the Ultra Short Throw projector.

I think to do it correctly I'd need some sort of housing - or eventually a stray ball would somehow find a way to break my projector (keep in mind, in a commercial setting things you think are impossible do happen eventually).

I'll send you pictures of my finished set up- this is a commercial setting, but I think you'll be impressed with my cost for the quality/durability I'm going to have (prior to starting my budget looks like it'll be under $2000 per enclosure).
