Has anyone used athlete foot sprays on clubs to check on strike and does it mark impact screen?

Many of us use foot spray powder (I wouldn't use any for "athletes foot" as that would have anti-fungal medicine in it) for club face impact checking - it does not affect the screen. Use a light coat, can usually see 8-10 strikes with one coating. An added benefit with irons is that you can check your lie angle by looking at the bottom area that's wiped clean by the turf - should be an even stripe across the bottom of the club face.Last edited by GungHoGolf; 01-17-2021, 06:15 PM.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

Grooves add nothing to the friction with a dry clubface and ball. They serve the same function as grooves in your car tires. i.e.channel moisture and other crap from the tire to road contact patch. This was demonstrated many years ago by Ralph Maltby who actually made a set of irons without grooves and tested them against an identical set of clubheads with grooves. Anything you put on the clubface usually decreases the coefficient of friction between ball and clubface. The idea is to use face stickers, foot powder etc. to find the impact spot on a few shots. From there you should learn what off center hits feel like and after awhile not need contact indicators of any kind.Originally posted by GutterSnipe View PostMy problem with impact stickers is they change the launch of the ball (dramatically so with wedges). I had no idea how much grooves grip and launch balls lower until I put impact tape on my clubs.

Apparently, according to a teaching pro I know, a lot of people have no idea what an off center shot feels like. He constantly talks about some of his students who come in complaining of loss of distance who are simply hitting the ball a few grooves low on the clubface. He changes their setup slightly and immediately they stop thinning the ball. As a bonus they think he is a genius teacher and recommend him to their buddies. He usually gives them few face stickers so they can diagnose themselves if they lose distance again.Last edited by Ronsc1985; 03-10-2021, 08:44 PM.
