  • Outdoor review of Trackman vs GC Quad

Not sure if this has been posted before, but this is the first time I have seen a head to head of both units while outdoors. Pretty interesting, and honestly I'm shocked at the differences.

Interesting to say the least... So My takeaway on this is that for a purely indoor setup. I think GCQuad is the one to have, and is likely the better for teaching as well. I've been in lessons where I absolutely nutted a shot and on Trackman it shows it coming up short and without some of the club data.

I actually had the opportunity to do this while taking a lesson at my local club this past summer. Trackman was reporting some "strange" club path data, so the teaching pro placed his GCQuad down on the mat and we observed the club data from the GCQ, but used the down-range data from the TM. Seems the best of both worlds, just crazy expensive

From what I understand and what I have read, for indoors gcquad is better. For outdoor, trackman is better.

I struggled to follow them a bit on the driver distance comments with their spotter. They seemed to say the spotter was next to the ball which to me implies she was at total distance not carry. Both units are going to be guessing at bounce/roll which is a huge guess. They said irons were much closer but I’d guess that’s because a wedge for example has very little rollout.

They also didn’t say what GC4 had for the draw swing that produced a fade (which was where initially they concluded TM4 club data was sub par). Presumably it had a fade with a draw swing also because of gear effect. Generally speaking I felt like the blanket statement of GC4 face and path being better was based on a loose theory at best. It seems obvious to me that impact location GC4 has a clear advantage by where it sits but a radar tracking path to me has a similar chance at accuracy as something taking a bunch of photos and interpolating how dots move between shots.

unfortunately from my perspective it sort of reenforces just how hard it is to compare these units and decide what’s “right”. I guess it’s why Bryson the scientist uses both a photo system and a radar because both will have ups and downs.

For ball flight data for sure but Quad is hands down better for club data all the time
