  • Which Ball Are You Using ???

So my search skills suck. I either get every post with the word "which" or "ball" in it or zero returns with "Which+ball".

So the question is the header. Which ball are you using in your sim and why ???

I had a couple dozen of the Callaway 2013 Hex Tour Black, they worked great but I'm almost out. I have heard to not use the ProV1's because they spin too much and will tear up your impact screen. I just purchased a dozen Srixon Q Stars and after half a round the cover feels a little rough. The old Callaways would last about a Month.

    Which begs the question.............?

I've hit thousands of shots with ProV1 and my screen is just fine. Of course, it may depend on the screen you have too. You need durability, so I couldn't suggest and ball that is soft, they will break often.

I use Tiger's ball the Bridgestone BXS. It spins really similar to a ProV1 but is a little softer and cover is more durable. I have black Vokey wedges and when I hit a ProV1 or a TP5 with them you can literally see pieces of the cover on the face. The Bridgestones don't do that and it's a great ball. Also my gamer ball.

I have always used Pro V1s. It is the ball I use on the course. If it gets nicked or sufficiently scuffed it goes into the shag bag. I have not noticed any wear on my (now 5 year old) Par2Pro SQ screen. I have read the same articles but prioritized same ball as I play.

i don’t discount the concern, but Whether the ball is spinning at 4,000 rpm vs 3 or 9,000 vs 8 I am not sure it makes that much difference at the end of the day. My two cents.

I use Pro V1's and bought this on amazon to put in front of the screen to not only protect but make the picture better

I would like to hear more about this. Seems like it could extend the life of my impact screen. How did you hang it? Does it have holes?

using clip, I wrapped it over the conduit of the frame and clipped it and can spin the clip around the pole to make it taught

I use the refurbed Pro V1s that you can get at Dick's. At least saves some cost and feels close enough to regular Pro V1s. Have been hitting the same dozen for a year or so now with no issues.

performs as well or better than any other premium ball at the fraction of the cost.

Srixon Z-stars. I still have a couple dozen from 2017 when I stocked up. They hold up pretty well and no issue with spin on my screen.

Especially when they were running the 2 for 1 deal. Very tough to beat. Still not as good as that deal though on the Nike tour RZN platinum balls they had at Dunhams back in the day.

I use the same ball I am playing. It changes between Pro-V1, TP5x Pix, Bridgestone Tour X, Vice Pro. I basically get the same numbers from all of these. I usually buy 5 dozen at a time and just put a new box in the Sim every time an order comes in. However, I would be more concerned about hitting older balls in the sim (where scuffs on the ball from hitting wedges could cause damage) versus hitting a ball that spins more.

I couldn’t care less about screen damage for spin. If you play a ball that spins on the course and then you play a different ball on the sim, all of your numbers will be off (spin, launch angle, height, carry distance, etc.). If you are using the sim to practice for playing real golf not sure why you would want to use a different ball. If you are just playing the sim to play the sim, in that case, it may make sense to consider screen damage (if that statement is accurate).

thanks for the reply - I’ll look for these clips - I ordered the 10’x10’ version of the screen you linked from Amazon to cover a 10’1”x7’7” (Sig10) screen. From your experience should I have gone with a larger version of the muslin cover screen (they also offer a 10x12 and a 10x20) - I haven’t opened the 10’x10’ screen cover from its packaging and could easily return for another size. Thanks.
