  • Golf achiever 2 or skytrak

    Hello guys,
Long time lurker finally decided post something.
I enjoyed reading posts from bubba and everyone.
Anyways, I need to help decide which way I should go.
Main objective is to practice indoors and maybe play some sim with friends once a while. I don't have projector so it wil be through my 55" tv connected to PC.
Skytrak: I like how they have good reviews and very accurate. Plus it's very portable and easy set up. Things I don't like about them are sim are very expensive and WTG only works with iPads. And it's about $700 more expensive.
GA2: it's cheaper and comes with 52 courses. Not sure how accurate they get and heard few reviews that it has to be adjusted time to time. Plus, I am going to set up in my own mat so I am not sure how hard is to set it up. Things I don't like about them are it's not easy to move it around and again not sure how accurate they get... I am sure for the money both of them are great I just want some professional opinion before I pull the trigger.

    Thanks!

If you're thinking of choosing GA2 over Skytrak because of the price, you might as well just buy an Optishot. The GA2 can't compete with Skytrak. Just sit tight and wait for Skytrak to sort out all of it's simulation woes.

The GA2 uses laser to determine ball data with spin estimated. It is certainly much better than the Optishot. Fhann here is our resident expert in the GA2. The shortcoming with it has been some issues with laser alignment and breakage, no righty and lefty usage and very little user play. I wouldn't discard getting a unit however, personally I think going the Skytrak route once simulation is available would be my suggestion. What exact price of the GA2 are you looking at?

GA2 is $1500 brand new with free shipping and comes with 52 courses.
Skytrak is $2200 ish with year subscription of $200 game and improve package and protective case.
        I am leaning towards skytrak.
I just don't like how i can only use WGT with iPad...
Is there any alt sim package are cheaper?
E6 is like $1500 and not sure how much tgc is going

The elephant in the room for Skytrak has been the lack of simulation. The unit has the ability to integrate well with simulation buy they have been too slow to get it out. It will come for sure. E6 will be the most expensive to but although they claim that a cloud option will be coming. TGC will be around 1K. PG will be around $250 per year.

I don't think PG has finalized the price, but talks were $250 a year not a month

$250 per year is PG's cut. Skytrak owners will have to buy it through Skygolf. It's anyone's guess how much they'll jack up the price on us!

I am sure Skytrak will have the same license hook for all SIM software. Like you will need package X to play E6 or PG or TGC. Once your unit has been licensed for package X you would purchase E6 or PG or TGC from that vendor. I don't think you will be purchasing PG from Skygolf. You will purchase Perfect Golf from Perfect Parallel and you will purchase E6 from TruGolf and TGC from swingsense.

I think the GA-X (GolfAchiever X) looks interesting, but I couldn't find much information.

            Dear Just Bring It 51,
I purchased a Golf Achiever in 2010. My intent was to use it commercially in my tavern. However; the lasers were constantly getting out of alignment and I felt guilty charging customers when more time was spent calibrating the equipment than actually playing golf.

I purchased a PRO TEE simulator with "The Golf Club" in October of 2015 and the product and accompanying service have EXCEEDED my expectations! The unit accommodates both right and left handed golfers and I am getting a lot of repeat business. Check out some videos on you-tube. In my opinion, "The Golf Club" graphics are exponentially better than SIMWAY graphics. The only way I would ever consider purchasing another Golf Achiever would be if they wrote an SDK so the Golf Achiever could use HB studio's graphics.

If it is geographically feasible, you're welcome to visit my tavern in Landisville, PA and try out the PRO TEE simulator in my restaurant for free before you part with your hard earned cash. I promise you that the extra $1500 you spend on a PRO TEE system will be money well spent.

I will also give you any assistance that I can provide to you to help you with your simulator build out.

            Sincerely & Respectfully,
            Glen Eshelman

              Hey eshmetro
              Thank you for your input
              One question
Does protee require tapes to get the readings correctly??
              Thanks

Just, I also have a Protee and recommend it. Protee works via a shadow based sensor and cameras. No taping is required. TGC is very nice and is improving as a sim software. Esh echoes my point that laser alignment can be an issue with Golfacheiver units.

                  Is protee same as p3p?
                  What's the price on protee?
I saw one online for $3000? If that's the one how do you have to set up all the lighting and launch camera?
I ask because I have such a limited space in my garage I might not be able to set everything up...

Protee is not the same as P3pro. They are in a complete different class. P3pto and Optishot are reflective type sensor systems that require taping. Protee is a shadow based sensor system (more accurate, no taping) that also has cameras for ball data. You can use the system without cameras as well but obviously the cameras make it more accurate. If you have space to swing then you have space for the cameras.
