  • New ES16

I haven't got the room 100% complete as of yet, but I do have it setup enough to use the Ernest Sport ES16 when it gets her Monday. I am looking forward to seeing how well it works. I started out with a P3 Pro Swing, but soon found I had all kinds of problems with ball tracking, I was told it was due to my lighting, I then changed out my lighting three times and now have it setup with all LED lights but still could not get the unit to function properly. I could hit the ball into the center of the screen, yet the P3 Pro Swing would show it going off left or right at an angle above 30 degrees or something on that order. I could hit it to the right side of the screen and it would show it going left, it is hard to work on your game when you can't get an accurate reading off what you are doing. I then switched over to the GolfAchiever and had a lot better performance, but they never came up with any software to play online. The courses were fun and my wife, our grandsons, and I had a lot of fun using the system. The youngest grandson had more missed readings than anyone, and every one else would have one now and then and a few balls here and there came up with readings that were well out of specks, but for the most part if you just wanted a system to play rounds on it worked out very well for that. I was looking for something that would give me a true reading for what is being done. I am hoping it will be useful for my grandsons to improve their game, and also myself, and give us some enjoyment during those days it is just to bad a weather to play at the course. Had to redo my golf room to match the setup for the ES16 but do like the way it is turning out, I am sure hoping the ES16 proves it is worth the extra effort to change the room. Oldest grandson even made a sign to hang on the door, due to the number of courses on TGC he thought it was a good one to put up. I am relatively new to golf I didn't start playing golf until I was 64 years old, but I sure am enjoying it now.

BG, thanks for the post... The room looks great! As a newer golfer myself, I'd be scared of the occasional shanks going off the sides there with no net or padding. Good luck with the ES16. Give us feedback when you can. Given what you've put into this, if you get unhappy with the ES, just go right to the GC2. Good luck!

I'll be adding some netting and all around the screen, I used a ultra short throw projector that is mounted in such a way it would be very hard to hit it but am looking at putting up a lexan plate to guard against balls bouncing off the screen and getting to it. I have a flat ceiling over the main part, but it vaults up where the projector is mounted so no way to hit a ball that would go straight to the projector. I will do my best to give feed back and keep up to date on how it works out.

Looks fantastic! Great set up you got there. Loving that sign too. He actually made it? That's really cool

He actually made it, he does the layout on the computer and the CNC router does all the carving he just changes bits when it tells him to. The lettering is V carved you have to look close other wise it looks like it was printed in the photo. He is working on some racks and stands for the golf clubs, can't wait to see what he does on that.

Good work BG. Good luck and give feedback on the ES16. I will be getting a ES16 unit back to test and improve things very soon. They have made lots of changes recently. Good luck and enjoy.

JV17 yeah I'm hearing ya... I'm just trying to get (as everyone is) the best deal i can... especially with aus dollar being rubbish... and i cant even find the apps to skytrak on AU app store etc... so I'm always thinking somewhere along the line something will go wrong

I wouldn't let the app availability be a factor. If you just create a new app in itunes on a MAC (or probably PC) (for iOS) you can select a country and you don't need to input a credit card as you would if you create an account on an iOS device. then just sign in with that account, download the app and then revert your account to your actual AU account. You will then be all good and that app will still get updates as if its a native AU app. That's how I got the SkyTrak app in the UK since I bought a US SkyTrak some months before the UK launch.

Well I have been putting off on posting anything until I got the new update, but it will not be released till tomorrow, or Wednesday, or who knows, provided it doesn't have any problems. I am being told that the update will cure all my problems but I just thought I would check to see if anyone else is having the same problems I am. First as you can see I setup the unit where it goes into the spot each time and have a laser pointer to mark where the ball goes. But you can also see I sometimes have to move the unit to get it to be able to track the ball. I also posted some shots, I have one marked where the ball bounced of it's own tracking trail, and one where the ball went 1 yard behind me and three foot below ground, now that was some divot if you ask me. I have all kinds where the ball hits one side of the screen and tracks on the other, plus shots where the yardage is way out of line.

Just got a call from Jim at Ernest Sports, the update release is still touch and go as to whether or not it will come out today or not. They do how ever believe I have a bad component in my system, so rather than waiting for the update to see if that will fix it or not they are sending me a new unit, and having me return my old one at no cost to me. I have to say they are trying their best to make things right, and I do believe that this unit has the potential of being a great system, so will see what happens.

Got the new ES16 today and I have been enjoying using it, not saying it is 100% but it sure is an improvement over what I had. I was told that the new update will do a lot more to make me happy with the ES16, a bigger ball detection area, I am not sure if the logo will still have to face unit or not but should be lots of improvements on how system works and preforms. We will have a template and a special black tee to calibrate the ES16s with. Was also told they have got the cameras and Doppler radar units reading the launch angles withing 0.02 degrees of each other so that in it's self should give a lot better reading. I am looking forward to getting the new update to see just how well it works.

Well I did a bit of a change, I installed a 1' x 3' Fiberbuilt grass mat. Sure does feel better than the old one did. I need to dress it up a bit but wanted it in so I could test it out. The wife said the old mat hurt her hands, but this one doesn't and feels good. Doesn't seem to add so much drag to the club.

Hello BG, I really liked your set up. Keep us uodated of any enhancement! One question, have you been able to test the last update of the ES16? Have been any improvement?

                    Thanks,
                    Ruben

Not yet still waiting on it to be released.
PS; Just found out new the new templates and tees for calibrating the ES16 will start shipping out to all ES16 owners tomorrow, I am not sure how long it will take for everyone to get their's but we should all be seeing a major improvement with it.

I got the calibration kit from Ernest Sports, installed it and found out it doesn't like my Mizuno clubs, it works great with all the other clubs the family has but doesn't like mine. I tried both my grandson's clubs, and my son-in-law's clubs and it reads them great I go back to my Mizuno clubs and it doesn't want to register the hit, not sure what is going on but am sure it is something that can be fixed.

What exactly is the calibration kit? What is it doing?

And what do you do with it?

                      Any pictures?

It is a template with a tee that has been mailed out to everyone that has a ES16 unit, they have all been mailed and you should be receiving it soon if not already. You set the ES16 unit in the place it is marked and set a ball on a the tee they send where it is marked then calibrate it to that spot, then you move the ball to the second position and do a second calibration there and it sets up new tolerances for the camera readings. There are instructions sent with it to help do the setup.

Is the ball now farther away than it was before? I remember people saying they felt it was too close to the unit.

The way I have it setup now the turf shots are about 14" and off the tee is about 11" from the face of the unit and about 1" behind.
                  Working...
