  • Do you ever get over the claustrophobia of swinging inside?

I don't move into my new house for another 3 weeks, so I'm doing the research and planning the build. Fun, but I'm dying to get started!! Anyway, I set up a stance mat and mocked up an area with the same dimensions as the room in which my sim will be built.

    WHOA!!

Technically, everything was fine and I could swing driver "freely"... in quotes because even though I knew I had about 1' or more clearance on all sides, it felt SO WEIRD! Does that ever go away? I've read about "indoor" swings... I guess that is what people are talking about... do you ever free up totally compared to what you do outside? Of course it is greatly individual, but I've love to get feedback from people. Right now I'm thinking that even when I get used to trusting the inside swing, how the heck can I be free enough for things like, oh I don't know... golf? Shaping shots?

It will go away eventually. I've got a tight space and struggled at first.
Now i don't even think about it, just swing away, shape shots etc

You'll get over it as soon as you can up your concentration level. It's no different then real golf where you are near a tree, bush etc. but have an unrestricted swing. Either you can concentrate on what's relevant to executing the shot or you can't.

Good point... Embrace The Challenge and hone your concentration... I like it!

It'll go away when you're playing a tournament and standing on the tee of a par five that you think you can reach in two if you step on it.

All a matter of what you get use too. I have only been playing golf for a little over three years, I played inside on a simulator for two months before I ever played on a real course.

I swing in the garage and only have about 1-2" at the top. If I "check my swing" it doesn't seem like enough space...but my actual follow through is just clear. I've never hit my ceiling once. Now I'm brand new to my sim...have only had it a few weeks but have played many many rounds so far. I'm much more use to it now and don't even think about it. Only time I think about it is if my brother comes over...his swing is different....and I don't want any marks on my Driver! lol.

Ha! I was totally thinking that too about my friends... One of my buddies is a hack... Him? he gets putter... Maybe a sand wedge... that's it... nothing more lol

I still cant freely swing driver in mine.. so I dont.. 3 wood feels cramped a little so I have to be super commited to the shot or I just get crazy flat with it

I was thinking about padding the walls then practicing wild swings... to get a feel for how much was too much. Then I thought "that's a seriously bad idea... My swing is bad enough!"

I wish I have a little more space - but then again never came close to hitting anything. Before I start inside I try to go outside and hit some into the net. I wish I had 50,000 to build a new room attached to the house for a golf sim - maybe someday.

ditto...although if I had a spare 50K, i'd spend 20 on the sim and take a wicked golf vacay for 30 ...just sayin'

After over two months of waiting, we get the keys to the new house tomorrow. Let the sim building begin!!! Actually, this will be the first time I'll be seeing the room that I earmarked for the sim since the home inspection. Hoping it won't feel crazy cramped... I'm still worried about the "indoor" swing thing ... it would suck to never feel comfortable. doh!

One way or another IMA make this work, though, and I can't wait to get started on the build!!!!
