  • Can I save a Foot ?

The time has come and finally building my Sim

I have pinched as much Room width as I can really with 11ft wide.

    Is this Wide enough ?
Can i offsett a little and move the matt to the right (right handed) maybe a foot or so ?
Or does the tee and ball have to be in the centre of the screen ?
Will it look or feel wierd ?

Or do I have pinch another foot and make wifth 12ft wide (could do without that really)

Based on a Screen 8ft wide

I can only speak as a Skytrak user, but my space is 9'3" wide and I'm offset to where I only have 34" between my ball and the wall I'm facing at setup in order to hit my driver (I'm six feet tall). It felt a little weird at first and I would try to pull the ball to the center of the screen but that didn't last long and I'm still having a blast after 18 months. It doesn't look weird to me at all. If you swing right handed and plan to have some lefties over to play, that might get more complicated depending on which launch monitor you go with. If you don't mind my asking, why are you losing three feet of width on your screen? At eight feet wide, your screen height at best will be six feet.

      Thanks for the reply

I have got the SkyTrack. Still un-opened box.
      Only Right handers.

regards the screen width, there is a post on the right facing wall wich comes out about a foot and limited to height @ the screen.
So i was going for an 8ft x 8ft screen and maybe a 4.3 Projector (if thats correct)

Only when I start building/measuring the walls I began to scatch my head about matt placement and wall distance behind me....

Ah, so the ceiling height is eight feet at the screen? Sounds like you have more height than that at impact? That post on the right makes it more complicated, if I'm understanding correctly, because that's obviously the side for righties that gets all the impact when you're offset. Yeah 4.3 is correct for your situation but as you likely know you'll get six feet of image in height. How much length do you have to work with? Any way to forego a little length to avoid the post and open up the room a bit? If you can, upload a pic of the space to help visualize.

I probably have 9 1/2ft at Screen. But above is some steel and need allowance of netting.

Hitting area maybe 10ft from Screen and room length 20ft.

I have taken too much room as it is .... like most probably ..... But do not want to build a studded wall and take it down ... I have a FULL day tomorrow Monday to work on it

Hit the camera icon just above and left of where you're typing your message, then hit the upload button below and find your pic on your computer, click on the pic and then hit the open button on the bottom right and it should upload. Here's a pic of my space before I built it out - may have some similarities. Need to know the length of your room though and height at impact, too. Was thinking about the math and if you have a 132" wide room, and you subtract the 12" post, and then subtract say 3" on both sides for securing your screen (3x2=6), that leaves you with 114" in image width that will give you an image height of 86", which is much better than limiting yourself to a 96" wide screen and 72" height image.

those are 8ft x 4ft boards but could do with only having another 3ft on the left instead of a Full 4ft board.

But i would just feel that i would be just right of center on the screen on the ball placement. If keeping away from the wall behind me..

As you can see ... a blank canvass but some size limitations

Height go ups at the Apex of the room at towards 11ft ... so OK

Screen and Netting ordered and here this week... pretty sure I allowed Extra ... I think 8 or 9ft wide and 10ft high (for overlap) maybe i could rotate it

Very nice. I would just "left justify" everything, meaning figure out where your tee will be with a driver in order to not hit anything on the left side on your backswing/follow through (possibly netting/curtains/wall down the left side?), and meaning move those 8'x4' boards from the right side to the left to help visualize your screen starting as far left as possible (it looks like that right board is currently behind that post and I'm thinking that post is going to block any image from getting to the screen over there) and shoot for that 114" x 86" (ish) image. I put up blue painters tape on my back wall to help visualize my image size and to do what I could to get the image as large as possible. And because you're length is limited, try and hang you screen as close to the back wall as possible. Mine is 10" from the back wall. I used angle iron on the top and sides and hung the screen, then an old king-sized white bedspread behind the screen, then netting behind the bedspread and that works well. I think you have plenty of room. Have fun with it and post updates!!

I opted for the foot extra wide in the end and will turn the Screen 8ft high and 10ft wide.

I know the roof does not look straight but there is some steel in the way

All is coming together now BUT ...... Now what to do regards Projector mounting.
After seeing where the screen is and the hitting area... I have options.
Either 400cm away back up above the swing area and 270cm high
                          or
move closer to about 250cm away from screen and 260cm high (estimate) up top in front of the hitting area.

I am finding it hard to get info about what Projectors and will post in that room.

                          Best format and ratio etc.

seems not a lot of options for 400cm away compaired to the Short Throws ??

Baldie, your sim room looks awesome! Well done! When I saw your first pic a week ago, I had trouble imagining anything really nice, but you did it! Can't believe you whipped that up so quickly!

I think your finished product looks to be about the same dimensions as the room I will be using for my build once I move in to the new house in a couple of weeks. It's definitely on the small side, but doable (9'H x 11'W x 13'). Because of my space restrictions, the Optoma GT1080Darbee was a perfect projector choice... you might want to check it out, unless you are trying to avoid a short throw. I'll include a link to a calculation site that really helped me work out positioning for everything too.

With our free projector screen calculator, you can find the perfect screen size for your needs by calculating viewing distance, aspect ratio, and more. Get started today!

With "only" a 10' W screen (300cm), 4:3 aspect ratio seems the best, and you're probably looking at mounting the projector about 2m (6'8") from the screen. That's for the Optoma, anyway, but that link I gave was awesome for checking out other models too.

I was looking at that Optoma GT1080Darbee as short throw because I was struggling to find anything 4:3 at 400cm away beacuse maybe i was doing something wrong.

If I went for a Short Throw option. I think maybe 2.5m away because the netting will come out 2m or so
