  • Anyone set up a camera system for capturing swing video?

With all of the options for webcams / security cameras (wireless or wired) these days it seems like it should be pretty easy to set up a system for capturing swing video during sim sessions. What solutions have people come up with? Back when I took lessons at GolfTec, they had a nice system that used a microphone and the sound of impact to capture video of each swing only and not the dead space in between. I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a system that incorporated that as well.

Here is a thread about the subject.

I figured I should start a new topic because the other thread has gotten a little long and confusing. Primarily I don't want anyone to think I am using ps3eye

inorkuo is the expert in this area...he would be the guy to go to.

I purchased a Swing Catalyst PRO package. It comes with 1 camera.II added an additional camera. The camera Chameleon USB 3.0 cameras150fps. It comes with a telephoto lens that can zoom up close or go to super wide angle. It works in conjuction with the Skytrak the launch monitor. The launch monitor triggers the video capture automatically.
The sofware can be set up to immediately play back a Swing or record back to back swing to view later. In order to get good crisp video it needs ample light. One camera is front facing and the other is set up down the line. During playback both views play asimultaneously. It also allows side comparison, video overlay (ghosting) of two swings in one window on top of each other (super imposed images or you can view 2 separate swing in side by windows. It was easy to set up and it works very well. I had a few setup questions and the support teams got back right away with answers to my questions.

It's not cheap but is well worth it!

Which lighting have you been using with your camera setup been in touch with salesman from swing catalyst. Lighting seem to be key component to get great video

          Thanks rcrosley51,

I think I’m ready to pull the trigger on a similar setup. I have about 8 feet from my face on camera mount to the golfer and 11 feet from the down the line camera mount to the golfer. (Down the line club head will obviously be closer). Anybody out there try the Dragon camera? They say minimum 3 M from camera to driver. Any recommendations? I also have a BodiTrak usb pressure mat. Will that plug and play with Swing Catalyst? My SkyTrak is in for repair (charging port fell inside the box after 5 years).

I'm jazzed about what appears to be a great integration setup to utilize all my current toys. Just need to finalize what cameras to buy.

Also interested in this. Would love to add an overhead camera for club path/face. Has anyone cracked open their Uneekor to see which camera they are actually using? Lol

I am also interested in whether anyone is using the dragon USB cameras with Swing Catalyst and Skytrak?

I have the LiveView+ camera and app with BlueStacks so it runs on the same PC as my Skytrak software.
Had to add a microphone to the PC so it could 'hear' the impact but after that it records x seconds before and after ball impact on multiple swings.
After some PC configuration adjustments I'm able to project that to the impact screen or sometimes do still run it independently on my tablet.
Not sure how it compares to the setups mentioned (and it does need a pretty bright room) above but it did really help me figure out what I was doing at the top of my swing.

I believe the new kinovea has all included with its own audio trigger to record the delayed stream from your own camera or cameras in its capture screen. Then with a second session of kinovea playing the recordings on loop on its playback screen until the next trigger.
