  • Basement build! Need helps and tips PLEASE!

    Hello All,

I am just getting into the planning phase of my sim build. I have done what seems to be days of research on the forums but still need some tips.

Space: I have a space that is 16’ W x 9’3” H x 20’ D. I know that 9’3” may be a little bit short for some of my taller friends but I have taken a lot of big swings with my driver and haven’t brushed it yet. (I even took what felt like some very upright swings) The space is finished if that matters.

I have ave been really on the fence between ST and Protee and think I am leaning towards the ST. If anyone has any new input on this issue that would be great!!!

I bought a Optoma GT1080 Darbee for projection, ended up finding one on sale for $150 off so it seemed like a no brainer. I plan to position the projector and find what my actual image size will be before purchasing a screen.

I have been looking at impact screens from par2pro, Carl’s and WCN.. I could really use some input here as well. I would like to be able to watch movies on this screen as well so picture and durability are my biggest concerns. I also have the option to connect the screen directly to the floor joists with some eye bolts if anyone has seen how that performs?

I haven’t even began looking into Mats or anything else at this point. I have read that several types are known to cause some joint issues so I would like to steer clear of those.

Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions!!

I have the Par2Pro SQ and am extremely happy with it. It's fairly new. I recommend that. I also recommend you buy a GC2. Bite the bullet. You'll be glad you did. As for mats, the CCE is a great mat bad but some people have said it hurts their elbow. If you have elbow issues, steer clear and get the true Strike or something.

Thanks for the reply. Did you go with the sq raw and customize it yourself or did you have it made with grommets etc? Thanks!

I personally think the GC2/GCQ is way over priced. I have the ST. I have used both and to be honest apart from a few extra things the GC2 offers like club impact i don't think its worth the extra cost for it.

The ST is just as accurate and just as versatile. It all really comes down to what you want to use it for, if your going to offer an indoor studio to give lessons on golf then yes maybe the GC2 is worth the extra, but if your going for a sim to play golf when the weather is bad to play at the club then why pay thousands more for something when the ST works just as good.

        Get the ST.

          HI

I second that, the SKytrak is great.
I've read things about no reads etc etc.... but i've never had any problems, if i do, it has always been on my side of things, setup etc.

I bought a skypro aswell not expecting much, but i found it very accurate. My club numbers, attack angles, shaft lean etc were right where i expected them to be, as for strike location at impact i just lift the club and look at the mark the ball left on the club face, don't need stickers to tell me that.

Always thought i would start with skytrak and then move to GC2, but now that i've owned a skytrak for 1.5 years and seen the progress in updates and all the sim software available to suit different budgets, i just don't see the point of all the added costs associated with foresight software and registration etc.

I do think someone will crack the cost barrier and offer ball & club data accurately for about 6-7K in the near future.

Till then i'm very happy with my skytrak and skypro.

          thanks
          HappyG

There is a bit of contradiction in your statement. If ST is just as versatile, then it would be capable of giving accurate club and impact data. The fact that HMT is available as an option on the GC2, makes the GC2 a much more versatile unit. You can use it for sim, practice, fitting and swing development with HMT and video capture with FSX.

As you said, it comes down to what you want to use it for. ST it a good tool to give somewhat accurate data. I've had a ST, GC2 +HMT, and Flightscope X2. I still have the GC2/HMT and X2. The GC2 is a much more robust package than the ST. It has an extremely long and successful track record. It has a much larger hitting area. It tracks putts better (although neither are great), you'll find many who have switched from ST to GC2...not so many the other way around (take that for what it's worth).

If you want to do more than just play sim rounds and general game improvement, the GC2 is the way to go if you can swing the price. If not, the ST is a good option for all the sim integration and training. Flightscope Mevo is great for training but without sim and azimuth, probably not what you are looking for.

I’ve had both st and gc2 and st is not as accurate, especially noticeable on hla. However it is a very good unit and looking back I would probably have stuck with it. I have no intention of getting an hmt so I don’t see the versatility as much as the st has. Also st keeps coming out with more and more updates putting the hardware in a good position.

I never got my Pro Tee setup because to redo the floor in my sims room was going to cost me around $2,800.00 or more and adding the cost of the second camera and the putting sensor brought the cost of setting up the Pro Tee to about what the GC2 cost me, so for me it was an easy choice once I get my sims room cleared back out all I have to do is set the GC2 down and start playing. I have nothing but praise for the Pro Tee support, they have helped me in so many ways and answered all my questions, if I was just starting out I would possibly have went with the Pro Tee. But for me the GC2 is the better choice I hope to add a HMT to mine and also for me I wish I had went with the GC2 two years ago as it would have saved me a lot of headaches. So I have to agree with mthunt the GC2 is well worth going for.

              Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. I ended up going with skytrak. At the price point I always can upgrade if my game demands it (doubt it). I have gotten quite a bit done in the last couple weeks. I have my screen up, mats in and found a computer ready to run TGC at max settings for $800 (nice sale at Best Buy) Sky Trak should be here in a couple days. I still need to figure out a way to protect my ceiling panels, it’s a drop ceiling and it is brand new so any suggestions there would be awesome! Here is a picture of the update. Thanks again!
