  • Ceiling Height in Basement

I know this is a long shot...

Has anyone underpinned or bench footed a portion of their basement to accommodate your golf simulator? I have an unfinished basement. Floor to bottom of joists is 7 foot 9 inches. I can actually manage to swing long irons and hybrid because my back swing goes in between the joists and, unless I over-swing, my follow-through is fine.

So, has anyone bench footed or under pinned their basement? I would only need to do 150 sq feet or so. I have no idea how much it would cost. Does anyone have an idea of the cost, assuming there are no pipes that need to be re-routed and its a simple process?

Alternatively, is there a way to replace a portion of the joists/beams with something that does not come down so far? I am no engineer so I would have no idea.

    Thanks

Both have been done in builds on this site. You may need to try searching some key terms to find them.

What did you decide? My basement dig will be complete tomorrow afternoon. It definitely required engineering because I needed to excavate three feet down right next to the foundation.

How big of an area did you end up digging out?

I dug a 20'x12' hitting area, which was dictated by a support post in the middle of the basement. I'll post details once I have the screen framed out and the flooring down.
