  • Seattle garage build

Thanks to this forum for all the knowledge! Did tons of reading and finally assembled a decent garage build after almost a year since purchasing my Skytrak. This is just the start of the build, but got it to a point where I can actually hit balls, plan to improve things further and clean up the space a bit more.

Still waiting on the Projector to arrive and need to build the PC so I can eventually run TGC (hopefully by the time the computer is built TGC 2019 will be ready).

    details-

    Launch monitor- Skytrak

Screen- 10’x17’ Staight from the mill V2. Folded the sides about a foot so it’s actually 15’ wide. Wood frame around the screen is 16’x10’, ceiling is about 11 1/2’ (used a tight net behind impact screen, with impact screen hung from 1/2” EMT using ball bungees and tarp clips)
will add a black border once finished up.

Platform- 8’x8’ with 10”x30” CCE insert. Made from particle board and 2x4 lumber. Then a layer of “anti fatigue” mat/padding from harbor freight. Top layer is just cheap green carpet, will replace with proper putting green material once I expand the platform to 12’x12’ and add a couple cups.

Got the new projector mounted, so far pretty impressed with it. (Infocus IN138HDST)
Pretty darn bright even with the garage lights all on. Although i don’t have anything to compare it to. Now I just have to get a PC built and load up TGC

Made more progress on getting the garage cleared out.

Purchased a used gaming PC and went with TGC.

Just a thought, I see you mentioned that you folded over both sides about a foot. You may only want to fold over one side slightly and put the majority of excess on the other end. That way if the impact area wears out, you can then unfold the two feet from the other side to give you a new impact area.

That’s a good point, was planning on shifting it one way or the other rather soon now that it’s set up.

What are you putting around the screen and then on your OSB board?

Haven’t decided yet on the screen border. Was thinking just cutting 8” strips of black indoor/outdoor carpet tacked to the wood frame. For covering the OSB, may do the same. Since this is a oversized 3-car garage (30x32) and the screen is 16ft wide, I still have the whole opposite half to do automotive work (installing a lift shortly). To better separate the space while playing, I bought a 120” tall x 100” wide blackout curtain to come out from the partial wall near the screen.

that looks great! I am also in Seattle area, and it's good to see some locals on this forum making indoor golf sim. My friends think I'm crazy building a golf sim in my basement. I should introduce them about this forum

JRachner This is similar to the space/ceiling I have available in my second separate garage. I have some questions on how you built the frame for the screen. I'm new to the forum but seems what you did makes the most sense given my space available & is much cheaper than buying a frame kit from an online site. Sending you a direct message now

Posted this question in another spot too...sorry for the duplicate. On the InFocus projector, have you noticed any lagging when you're using the simulator? I like all of the specs but couldn't find anything about the refresh rate or lag which seems to be mentioned when looking at 'gaming' projectors. Not sure if this qualifies as 'gaming.' Thanks
