  • 14' wide x 19' long x 10.5 high Room- largest screen i can get into this space?

Extremely new here and just cleaned out my room yesterday.
I have spent alot of time reading other peoples sim builds, and i saw the other night a person that had the almost exact size room (width and height anyways) and i didn't save or mark that information- i think i had a couple of scotches perhaps. I have spent almost most of the night trying to find that post, but was unsuccessful tonight.
Anyways, i was wondering what's the largest screen size i can get with this room size, I have seen the 1" emt, and other angle iron's, etc... and wondering if the 14'x10.5' is practical or not? I guess this screen build would be the first part of the build process and work back to the projector and mat's. I think i am going with the cg2+hmt but not 100% yet. But i want to start nailing down some of these other hardward/build steps.
    Any advise would be great.

My room is similar, and the max size is going to depend on the aspect ration you'll be projecting.

At 16:9 you'll fill the width before using up the full height (14' x 8' 11").
At 4:3 aspect ratio, I think it would be spot on for a 14' x 10.5' screen.

Now the practicality of it is a completely different question. Going to depend on where you want or can put the projector. The projector throw distance. How bright the projector is. How dark you can get or want the room when viewing. And probably a few other things as well. The Projector calculator here can be very helpful (https://www.projectorcentral.com).

So it's usually better to have a general idea of what projector you'll be using (or considering) before deciding screen size.

FWIW, for various reasons, I decided to go with 12' x 9'.

Unfortunately, I did it the other way around (so much for proper planning) - I maxed out the screen size at 9 x 15 and now that I'm using an ipad w/ a 4:3 ratio, I am left with a wide screen with a narrow image.

Can you give me any suggestions (other than changing to a gaming PC) on how I can max out the image?

      Thanks!

My dimensions are some what similar. depending on how you do your build you need to make some allowances for actual EMT frame size, if you are doing side protection, how is it incorporated into the space available (within the EMT dimensions?, outside the EMT dimensions, etc.).

In my situation I am using my 168" of width as follows: EMT frame 13' and side protection (theater curtains on each side) total of 10"; this leaves me a viewable image of 147" wide with 16:9 aspect ratio. I think in your case regardless of aspect ratio you clould have EMT frame of 163" W and with 16:9 you get 87" viewable height and with 4:3 116" VH. Ran these numbers for BenQHT2150ST & Optoma GT1080Darbee. I think StuartG's height on 16:9 is overstated.

Those numbers came direct from the Throw Calculator on projectorcentral.com

JiminSc, did you build the EMT structure yourself, or buy as package somewhere, do you have some type of sketch or drawing of this?
So you have 6" of space on either side of your structure you built then?
What do you think the best Projector out there for this application? Any 8K ones out there?
How do you like that Quad? did you every consider the GC2 before you bought it,
Where is your simulator located? It would be great if people could see or tour ones out there in the area and to talk directly sometimes also.
Sorry for all the questions, Just so many details to figure out and i want to cut down on the mistakes here.
    thanks

I am just starting my build. I will be building the EMT structure myself. My sim will be in my garage. Some time this week I will post the plan. My original post on the forum was just a short time ago. Post 1 in the link below. Won't bore you with the whole story, but the plan went thru 3 evolutions to the final plan. Lot's of details to be considered and this forum has been invaluable.
I am going with BenqHT2150ST, the only other one I considered was Optoma GT1080. My screen is not up but I am posting an image I projected on the garage wall to get some idea of what image will look like. I just got the Quad, I've got a hip injury and can't swing a club right now, but I took it my course and had the pro hit some balls on the range. i was impressed with the results. I had him hit some 1 dot, 4 dot and no dot balls to better understand the machine. I have a good friend who is a fitter & later this week I hope to catch up with and we will do his new Trackman & the Quad side by side.
Looking to do a garage sim, would like impact screen to be moveable so as to park both cars in garage (18” to 24” total depth). Attached photos show wall

Make sure your screen is 12-18” smaller than your frame. This will allow you to use bungies to attach your screen to your frame with a little tension. The small amount of tension helps smooth out the impact marks on the screen and well as creates a little bounce back. With most of my clubs, my ball comes back to where I hit from (gently).
